needing to seperate ducklings from chicks a little better....

keep in mind that I am that little kid with their first hammer and nail project, and I am not allowed to use the power tools, and must build this ou of the scrap pile....

I am thinking something along the lines of a rabbit hutch style thing, with a small pan or tub in dropped in the outside screen somehow (for drinking and swimming) how would i support this tub...

hubby says no more building projects, I must learn to do them myself,,,he always pops in to help but insist I try.........SO HHHEEELLPPP!!!

you're not allowed to use the power tools? I'd flip out lol. I actually cut the plywood and put up a couple walls on the coop while my hubby's been away lol (he didn't want me to but I did it anyway haha). Good luck!

I'd make a 2 part hutch, with an enclosed portion for sleeping and a larger wire bottom section. Put a plastic dish pan on the wire and make a ramp up and into the pan (like an inverted V). To change the water, take out another pan w/water and just switch them, dumping the old water on a plant you want to grow really fast.

I'm not even going to try to imagine what this is going to look like.

I would use a car litter box for the "pond". I like the ramp idea.

If hubby ever decides to build you cages, I have a couple extra j-clip pliers. Don't buy one. Every time I buy a set of rabbit cages, they send another pair. Makes connecting wire sides so easy and fast.

And working hands are working hands. You've seen me slice myself and keep going. I know you do the same.

welcome newbies.. so sorry eli, I have had that happen, ducks now live alone.. more chick flicks ( I mean pics ) please.....I have no babies this year except meatiesw and they do not count.. whoever had the wellie chicks, congrats, one of my favorite breeds, I just have never had any luck overwintering the breed.. fisherlady and CC..... does it mean anything to be female and have those hands....I get strange looks when I stick myself with things and never feel it,,,, I work with machinery that exceeds 400 degrees at times, burns are an everyday thing
Egg white is the most amazing thing for burns! Soak the burned area for at least a half hour. It can work miracles if you let it soak long enough. But that's not always easy to do at the scene of the crime
It means you are a worker also! It isn't just men I see the tough skin on.... My own hands are very rarely intact, usually have cuts, scrapes or splinters in them somewhere. I got to work today and found I had a large splinter in the side of my thumb, no idea how or when I got that one. Managed to cut it out with clippers, hopefully got it all, will find out in a few days if I didn't. With the construction, animal chores and fishing I don't even begin to try anything beyond the occasional lotion anymore. DH new he wasn't getting a manicure type from the start, that's for sure!:gig
Drawing salve is also wonderful for stuck in splinters. Ever use it?
lol, no. Found out as in I wasn't trying to hide it too well and he read all the comments on my Chickens album on Facebook while checking out all the pictures I put up lol. He said he never agreed to 17 so we may have to have a BBQ! Good thing I know he's kidding lol.
Glad he's understanding! It looks like you have the room lucky duck!
Today we bathe chickens. (Getting ready for the Delmarva show). Already got the biggest Roo done, but not before he took a chunk outta my hand. Roosters crowing in the house, oh my!
This sounds like another Three Stooges episode...:lau
Thanks Barbie! Here's a girl I wish we entered I think she's looking pretty good... oh well. Yesterday's practice hairdoo.... Maybe I can bribe her into letting me do that today for school!!
Beautiful Chicken! Love the hairdo! Very nice! I believe only 2% of Americans are natural Redheads. Gorgeous!

Onion will draw out splinters. Put a slice of onion over splinter, bandage in place over night. (Yes, bandage, not bandaid, lol, for those that understand the difference between bandage and dressing, and not the stuff you put on a salad. Why does English have to be so confusing?)

You need to just set up a video camera in a corner and record all the fun! Beats the heck out of most vacation trip videos for me! LOL

Absolutely gorgeous hen!! Love the gray fluffy butt! Your daughter has beautiful hair! So glad to see she is OK with it being long, there are a ton of ways to braid long hair (and this comes from a long haired red head who can braid her own different for about every day of the week! LOL)
Don't you EVER let her dye it! I lived through the teasing for the red hair my whole childhood, but never gave in and never dyed it.... I know a young girl who did dye hers and it was just horrible dry and broken from then on...

I never heard of that... will have to give it a try... do you have to slice the skin over the area first for it to work or does it draw it through the thick skin (I kinda have a lot of callouses

)

Anne... I used a black salve when I was a kid, it would work as long as I cut an X over the top of the splinter area first with a razor, but it wouldn't draw it out through otherwise.... and really deep ones just had to beal out over time though.

I have finger tips that have no feeling, does that tell you anything.....

I would be really bad in the medical field....I would tell them,, oh that's fine, you don't need anything, dump some of that alcohol on there to clean it out...

Love this!!! And you can't imagine how often I have to bite my tongue to keep from saying..."You called and ambulance for THIS??? I wouldn't even go to the hospital for that, let alone call an ambulance!!! The USA has become a nation of 75% wusses!

I want turkey eggs! Lol

OK, I'll even settle for poults at this point if I have to.

I've got lots of turkey eggs, but none of them fertile yet. Got a young tom who just hasn't figured out why the hens keep laying down in front of him.
So sad to not be able to hatch them. At least the chickens are doing great with the fertility.
