Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Yes, LMP. Those are from Stake. He will have more. You just have to go get them. Don't bring a motorcycle trailer. He and everyone else along the way will try to fill it for you! Not to mention it costs a lot to haul a trailer. $200 in gas!!

Good post! I also breed rabbits. Holland lops. looking to maybe expand into the meat market but not sure. If we do I was thinking californians. hmm there are so many options though!

I think my favorites might just be my two champagne d'agent., although my silver fox/new Zealand cross are nice, too.

Did I mention they have sharp toenails? I don't handle them a lot, so they are skittish. And my one male likes to nibble (bite) to ask for treats (and a female). They have sharp teeth, lol.

It's all good.

****Who had the Fountain..bird thing? Did you happen to get a better picture of that thing? Was wondering what it really looked like...
They are Black Australorps. They are supposed to be an all black bird with greenish-purple sheen to the feathers. I didn't see any white tips in the pictures I seen. Supposed to be a very good layer and holds a record. 'Some sensational results were made in the Australian program, and one hen set a laying record of 364 eggs in 365 days.' Quoted from the Murray McMurray site. That sounds good to me lol. Hubby wanted me to pick some up when I got the silkies last week but they didn't have them in that week. I seen them and they were half off so I came home with 15. I know some will be roos and hoping to have some females in there.

They'll be 6 weeks old on Saturday. We're actually new to chickens and these are our first group. We just happened to find the silkies at TSC the one day and couldn't resist getting a couple since they look so cute and everyone raves about them lol. We also have 4 BCMs, 4 EEs, 2 GCs, 2 SLW, 2 OEGBs, and 1 brahma/marans cross.

Sounds like a pretty flock! : ) Starting out we had a horrible time. We first acquired 3 RIR hens, and added 5 silkie mixes (which was great) then i fell inlove with silkies online and had to order some. So my hubby and I ordered 15 bantams. 7 silkies and 8 sebrights. when we received them the box was crushed completely, we had 7 survivors of the 20 they sent (they sent extra) 2 were silkies,1 was a golden sebright and the rest were RIR LF roosters which we didnt order. out of that 1 silkie and 1 RIR roo lived. the others had injuries that I tried t treat but couldn't. Needless to say I usually just wait for chick days at TSC now.lol. unless their is a local breeder with ones Im interested in : )But We currently have 5 silkies (3white 2 blue) just sold a few of them. 2 OEGB, 14 (mixed batch of chicks, ee and ameraucana, waiting for them to feather out but I think I only have 3 Ameraucana) a RIR, silkie mix and a silver laced cochin. And i know, tsc chicks are hard to pass up, the silkie chicks get me every year lol. but hey if you have photos of your silkies I can take a look and see if I can see any signs of their possible genders . at 6 weeks I have a good idea of my own silkie chicks genders, but of course thats because I can obseve them ontop of seeing them.

We had 4 BA roos in a broody hatch.... 3 out of the 4 went to freezer camp (actually a nice sized bird, so decent as dual purpose) the 4th is still here and is an awesome 'baby daddy'. We call him Gabby, because even as a youngster he 'talked' to us almost constantly, he is people and dog friendly, takes good care of the girls and is very, very attentive with any of the broodies and their youngsters. He finds tidbits for the babies and shares with them and tolerates the youngsters jumping on him and being underfoot and even pecking at his comb and wattles... He is a hatchery bird, but worth his weight in gold when it comes to taking care of the broodies and babies in my book!

In 5 weeks I will post pictures of the 7 I just got from the TSC see if you have any clue. I love my silkies

I am more worried about the high humidity and that the temp was low for two days, will this affect the hatch rate?
hmm.png
I just used a converter to change the temp and 37.5=99.5 so that's good but obviously that makes 35.7 low but you said this was in the morning, any idea how long it was at this temp.? Some people say that you should turn the incubator off for 30 min to an hour everyday to simulate the Broody hen get off to eat drink and do her business, so if it was an hour or two probably not much affect much longer than that might affect it but maybe not a total loss. as for the humidity when I first started incubating the turkey eggs i have in now the humidity for some reason was all over the place, I got it under control within a day or two, but also a lot of the research I did said to keep it between 55%-65% so too me 61% is not super high. I have since seen more and more people say it should be lower but when I candles them at 14 days 5 I saw movement in, and probably another 5 to me look the way they should just no movement, I have been told 50-60% hatch rate on shipped eggs is good so it looks like I am doing something right. I have been lately trying to keep it on the lower side of the 55-65% humidity range but have also hat spikes up to 80%. Quite frankly I don't think that any broody hen controls the temp and humidity with the consistency that we try to with incubators so I would say you are probably doing alright.

Alrighty I can take a crack at it : ) theres no denying silkies are hard to sex. so no guarentees, just good guesses lol. If u decide to breed yours though itll get easier working with the same blood lines. This year at tsc I did pretty good though. 2 hens and 1 rooster. he was huge compared to the rest though so i was pretty sure he was a roo. i love them too : ) of course i love anything small and fluffy.lol.

I got the last 7 silkies in the bin that day. 2 were older and bigger and the rest were all the same size. I been watching for signs of roos, anyone growing faster, standing up more. Don't see anything like that yet. They are all growing the same rate. Silkies take forever to figure out what sex they are. My silkie rooster doesn't like any other male chickens so I guess I will find out when they are old enough to go over. I am hoping for a hen
