Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

In a couple weeks when I have some empty pens, everyone here is gonna vouch that I am running experiments with deltzel,,,,, right......I have the silkie and leghorn, curious as to skin color that will produce but won't the offspring have the body of the leghorn, then what do I breed that offspring back with...

Just need to say that I am glad SoME of you do not live closer, for you think up these things and I just have to see the outcome in front of me to have it stick in thehead....

Any more experiments,,, I do have the bresse that I am not at all impressed with,, although they do process out bigger than they appear, with some nice breast meat

Wing... with the silkie/LH cross.... I would put the roosters from that cross back over a white rock hen (for bulk and breast meat) or regular white cornish hens if you have them, then take the hens from that generation and breed them back to the largest of your silkie/leghorn roosters. I would think adding in a generation of white rock should add some bulk, but just guessing...

On another note... how about the Aseel (sp?) roosters? I know they look like fighting birds, but I think the asian strains are good for leg meat and length.... don't know if they are dark skinned though. I think they were considered a foundation breed of what eventually ended up being cornish though... so something to think of.

Good evening all:

Having a hard time keeping up with the threads, so Howdy to all the new folks...

For LisaY, I had six big girls laying and was getting about 3-4/day....,my dork girl stopped laying after the fox attack...though the roo is still interested in her....one of my BOs has just decided to take a break....and, one of my marans just went broody....she has three eggs under her...

With my new additions: trio of CCLs, two OE (marans/CCL) and a Dork/CCL....I'm a bit overloaded.....

For any one interested, I have extra chooks available...I have some extra CCL boys....some Chauntler/Barred Rock mixes. a ShowGirl Silkie, and a CCL/GLW mix....I may also have some extra OEs depending on the broody count, I also have a Maraduna Basque Roo....(9mos) may need to swap him out though I really do like him...just doesn't quite fit in....

Anyone know of any Indian Runner Duck breeders around Beaversprings/Lewistown area? I want to get some, Im inlovee <3 lol. Theres a couple other breeds I like too...just prefer the Indian Runners if possible : )

Please forgive the ignorance but what is hatchery stock?

That means the parents (or somewhere in their past) came from a commercial hatchery. "Hatchery stock" is not show quality, nor bred to the standards that some people expect. They are fine general purpose chickens, but some people want better bloodlines.

There are all sorts of people the are on this thread, some show (or their children show) in fairs, some don't care at all about that. It's always good to be clear on the origins to prevent misunderstandings.
