The girl is a beauty... but I am loving the front profile/body shape of your boy here... would love to see a side view. Is he that short legged and heavy or is it just his body position when you snapped the pic giving that impression?

Worked while I kept her head covered. Can't peck what you can't see, right?Thew a rag over her head? I haven't heard of this maneuver before... Does it help? Your first broody hatch, how exciting!! sounds like you're doing everything just right. One thing I try to be careful of with a first time broody is when she's hatching, keep an eye out that she doesn't leave zipped eggs behind to care for the first few hatched. Also..candle those eggs, I had a friend try out the Giant eggs that were marked fertile and had a zero hatch, you don't want her to brood the whole 21 days and then not hatch. If you need fertile eggs, I am happy to help you out there. I'm very familiar with Swarthmore and go that way often.
haha, I heard they are loud. About how old until I should be able to let them out of the brooder and be outside?Earplugs
hmmm.... what day are you on? I'm afraid those don't look good.Worked while I kept her head covered. Can't peck what you can't see, right? Per your suggestion, I decided to candle them. We stuck a toilet paper tube on the end of an LED bulb with some gaff tape, and did a old-timey dark room setup. (Which is to say, stuck the egg on the tube, threw a coat over our heads, and hoped for the best.) Here are the candling pictures. Brown-shelled eggs, so they weren't that simple to do; and to be honest I'm not at all sure what I'm looking for. None of them looked like they do on the web! Does any of this look good?[COLOR=0000FF]Thew a rag over her head? I haven't heard of this maneuver before... Does it help?
