everyone's first few minutes in the coop

they were really confused and rather nervous at first but within a few minutes they figured out the water bucket and a couple were jumping up on the roost shelves. I guess now they have to re-establish their pecking order. Hubby and I ended up watching them chase each other around for a good hour lol. It's obvious that they're loving finally having the extra space. They were running around, stretching and flapping their wings and just all around having a good time. Working on finishing up the run over the next couple days

Looks great! Be prepared to spend a lot of evenings 'just watching' them! We still do it and it's been a long time since we first got ours!

Hatch day !! Some cochin bantams from wingstone are hatched, at least 5 for sure. I can't wait to see how they fluff out.

And some random pics for everyone . . .

My favorite turkey hen, we have a special bond, she will leave a pile of fresh greens to come and sit by me when I come in the pen.

A sampling of eggs I'm setting today, from the left:
Rhodebar
New Hampshire
Welsummer
Ameracauna - pullet just started laying
Easter egger - older hen covered by a Lavender Ameracauna roo

Curious peafowl. They aren't sure if that phone is dangerous or edible.

I thought the peafowl were peacocks! Very beautiful!!
Re: bees

In going to try a top bar hive. Not as much honey, harder to winter, but different, like me. And cheap.

Now to just catch a swarm. Oh, and not get stung trying.
Funny you should say your going to catch a swarm..Todd had a , what we believe to have been a Queen bee, being mated..land on his shirt. It was really neat..I was thinking very hard about keeping it, bit I am not set-up for anything yet and would have hated if they would have died..so we left them go, I know, we should have took a picture....it's okay, another day. we will have bees, and it will be the right set up and time for it all. Good luck on your Bee-Adventure CC..and have fun!!! Have an epi-pen at the ready...

LMP so far we have Eva for the lil girl and Egan for the little boy, the big boy hasn't been named, but I'm loving all the suggestions I'm getting here, THANKS!

So for you turkey experts... Here are the 'Royal Palm' poults that aren't looking much like Royal Palm. I feel really bad for MsLadyHawke as I think she really wanted a Royal Palm for a friend. Any guesses here? MLH thought perhaps Red Bourbon...

no-idea what they, except cute..hahaha...cool names! Has "Emmett",( for your bigger guy), been thrown out there?..I can't keep up with everything that has been suggested...hahaha, sure is fun though!

We have 3 peacocks and 2 peahens. The pic shows all 5, the hens are on the left. My photography skills just don't do them justice. When the sun hits them, they are breathtaking.
How are they to have around?..are they territorial/loud/skittish? are they prone to roaming far from 'home'?...they are a good looking bird, even DH commented...sorry, I just bombarded you with everything...hahahaha

Yes to everything you mentioned, LOL. Ours are less than a year old. There are some experts that can give a better perspective.

They are expensive to buy and maintain, prone to diseases like blackhead. Obnoxiously loud at times, brutal to other birds they don't like, and too stupid to roost inside until you remove every roosting place from their outdoor yard.

And we love them. Go figure.

Our hens will never free range, we have too many predators. The spare male might get let loose when we separate the pairs for breeding, unless we can sell him, but not that many people have accommodations suitable for a peacock, so the market is small.
