Good evening all:

Could somebody with a bit of knowledge set me straight?

Well broody #1 set, I push about 1/2 doz eggs under her ......at some point her sister, started pushing her out of the nesting box and laying extra eggs....I let this happen figuring the eggs were always covered and warm...well, later on, one chick was found dead on the coop floor and another didn't make it out of the shell correctly....this morning I found about six eggs pushed out of the box and laying on the coop floor...and, now both broody #1 and her sister (aka broody #2) sitting in the same box...I move the six remaining eggs to a different box and put broody #1 on the remaining eggs....fast forward a couple of hours...all the eggs have been moved back to the original box and both girls are sitting in the box....of my six adult laying chooks, two are broody, two are laying and the other two have just quit for the past month or two...

sorry to laugh................lol, lol...............but this is some comedy show you are running! Girls! who can figure them out!

Need some help to fill an order...
Sorry if anyone is grossed out
I need to do a bator full of balut, can I use Muscovy eggs and if so should they stay in longer than other duck eggs

Sorry again to those that can not even imagine this, but all the info I find just says duck eggs. Some say mallard eggs better but do not give details.

CC, I may need some duck eggs from your neighbor if I can not use muscovy

tidbit of interest pertaining to your question from the article....
.... Although duck eggs are commonly used, you can also use chicken eggs. Mallard eggs are used most commonly, but Muscovy duck eggs are thought to make the best balut, Dr. Jonathan Deutsch explains in his book, "They Eat That?"

Sorry, No personal experience, so can't help other than through researching...

LMP so far we have Eva for the lil girl and Egan for the little boy, the big boy hasn't been named, but I'm loving all the suggestions I'm getting here, THANKS! So for you turkey experts... Here are the 'Royal Palm' poults that aren't looking much like Royal Palm. I feel really bad for MsLadyHawke as I think she really wanted a Royal Palm for a friend. Any guesses here? MLH thought perhaps Red Bourbon...
Too dark to be bourbons...those would be a sandy buff. Definitely not palms...they start out white. Gonna guess standard bronze or eastern wild.
http://inhabitat.com/mcdonalds-to-add-lab-grown-chicken-mcnuggets-to-its-menu/ disgusting! Checked on the babies before bed and they seem to be adjusting to the coop just fine. Most were in a big cuddle puddle but a few were roosting. Of course not on the roost bars lol but on the ledge to the nest boxes that aren't built yet. Oh well, they'll figure it out eventually.
Check the date. It was an April Fool's joke.

Here are some pics of our coop and run progress. Hopefully we'll get it all finished today... we're behind on the "schedule" we set for ourselves due to DH being under the weather for a couple days. Chicken math was used in the creation of the "schedule" before we even have the chickens lol!

Sorry if this is pic overload, I'm just really excited and very proud of what we're accomplishing.

Framing the run:

Nesting boxes going in:

"Front" of the coop (I love the Rooster hot plate on the door):

Nesting boxes from the inside:

Hard to see roosts in front of their "panoramic window":

4ft total "roosting space" attached with hook things in the middle and screwed into the walls at either end:

And a pic of the pop door with window above from roosts:

Now we just need to close in the nesting boxes and paint the interior and exterior of the coop, finish enclosing the run and get the girls!

Nice job, I really like the idea of using the picnic bench!
