LizardCat- hey, I found the blog that has the "layered-gardening"..*.Homestead Honey....This is for any & everyone..there is so much info in some of these blogs!!
Hope everyone is staying dry, small ponds are starting to form around the yard..I really hope this rain eases up soon..The broody(Hen-Bree) and the chicks are running out of dry space even under the tarps...
Thanks! I miss "chick tv", my subscription ran out and now I'm left with "Hens gone wild". That's certainly entertaining too. My leghorn will jump straight up and even over another chicken if the dog barks and spooks her. Unfortunately, she cane easily fly-jump onto the top of the fence...
That's awesome!
Mine enjoyed the hosta and the Bleeding heart I put in last year. Poo. Looking today on Craigslist for some cheap fencing to put around my raised gardens. I may have lost the battle, but I will not lose the war!
good luck on your on that fencing!!....I have a question on the 'bleeding heart'...i thought that all parts of that were poisonous

...can chickens eat that? IDK...

Although I don't have any room to talk.....

DH and I spent nearly an hour the other evening searching for a chick we thought hadn't gone back in the coop after free ranging....

until DH finally saw it perched overhead on a the power cord for the Christmas light string we have strung through the rafters inside of the coop! It was happily swaying back and forth like a circus performer on a trapeze line! Happily watching us doing our stupid human tricks!

I can only imagine the conversation in the coop amongst the birds....
perpetrator..... "Hey, bro!! Watch this!.... I'm gonna make them think I ran away and got eaten!"
bro..... "Naahhh... they'll never fall for that, they'll see you right away!"
perpetrator.... "Nope, I'll betcha first dibs on the good scratch tomorrow that they won't be smart enough to look up!!"
bro.... "you're on!"

Guess who won the bet?

...i have this awesome picture in my head..so cute!!

Well DH will be the problem here, I really do not want to tell him I lost a chick in the house, he is a born and raised farm boy with the belief that all critters belong outside...he fusses about them inside on a regular basis....

Does anybody want to go feed and water for me, I am having one of those, why do I do this days.....

Don't forget to feed and water the old ones in the house. just kidding, I think.

I would get two or 3 boxes, and set a portion of the chicks in each one to confirm the count first (if it is over 15 I have a heck of a time not screwing up counts)

... smell the cat's breath

... check dog's teeth for extra feathers

... then start the search

.... and remember to look up!

Not going to be weeding this garden!! hahaha....the potatoes are popping out all over the "bin"..first time this year, so excited it is working!!

pulled Ginger out of the nest box to be with the other girls..not a happy broody...had something to say the entire time she was picking at the feed I threw in for them...crazy bird..
Haven't separated her yet, had some family issues this weekend and thought I might have to take a trip..so, at some point this week..into a crate she goes!! Unless I take that walk up to the neighbor with the fertile eggs...anyone interested in mixed- egg layers if I do???

That is one breed of dog I have never heard of.

The BBW enjoying their extended run last night. They apparently moved back to their pen. They were dry this morning. I was half afraid I would walk out to find they were turkey soup this morning!
