Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

My big mouth got me in doo-doo again.

You see I have 2 brothers who I am always preaching to about what they eat, literally they live on frozen dinners, I think that is the only aisle they can find in the store.

Well they thru it all back at me and challenged me to eat nothing but what I grow or raise for the entire month of June,,,, when it comes to the brothers, I can not back down from a challenge, and if I do this, they are gonna take my place in the tobacco field this year.

Help...
The garden is not gonna be producing much till then, and I cannot live on chicken alone....I did mention to them that I will not give up my morning coffee, they made an exception for that only since they know me, without coffee

I can only buy things that I can guarantee chemical free since that is what I preach to them all the time.

I made this bet on memorial day, and now that I have had time to think about it, this could be harder than thought, even my water is not chemical free, you can smell the chlorine in it.

I got lettuce and goat milk...but live pretty far from ya. My garden fence also blew down, although the chooks have not gotten at it yet.. need to fix that today.

Son left 2 cages open last night and I lost some pretty expensive birds. I am unbelievably bummed, mostly because a successful predator will always come back. Feeling pretty discouraged today.

Out of 18 eggs in the incubator I have 6 with veining and the rest are clear or have the blood ring. I had a temp spike to 104 the other day. I wonder if that is what caused some to die. They are also mail order eggs so I guess I should be grateful that I got 6 with veining. Last summer my last batch of mail order had zero out of 12. I wish my Silkie would go broody again. She is almost 2 and only went broody once. My other Silkie we got in the fall and I'm not sure how old she is (they said a year) or if she ever went broody. I thought Silkies went broody all the time???

I'm hoping the weather improves today. It's the kids school picnic to Kennywood and I'm not wasting $75 on tickets to go in the rain. Fingers crossed it stops soon!!!

Have a great day everyone!

Where are you located? We might be able to find some local hatching eggs that will give you a better percentage. I have some breeds that are almost 100% fertile and hatch consistently 80 - 90%.

Just being neighborly (pretty sure that what we are calling it now).

Blarney
That would be quite a drive for a salad.

Makes me wonder just how much planning went into the food storage year's ago....

LMP
I know you have a veggy and fruit based diet, how do you manage to find chemical free, naturally produced.?

It does not help being farm based, that just makes me realize that just because the tag say's it is all natural, I know that it may not be.......did you know that all fruit that passes thru any airport is sprayed, even those called organic............

Neighborly just sounds so much nicer than the enabler.:lau

Yikes! sorry about the loss of those birds. I feel for you, I've seen some pretty substantial tragedies in the last 6 months, most of them really my fault. It's the tough part of keeping animals.

I try to focus on the successes, but I grant that can be hard to do at times like this.

IDK if this is feasible, but there is a fur trapper that gets a call when a fox is spotted at the farm. I think he got 28 or so of the varmints last year, along with some coons, but they are back in full force already this spring. Sometimes these guys advertise on CL that they will remove unwanted predators.

X2, sorry to hear about the loss, tough at times to deal with,
I also have a trapper to call, not sure how that would be with the dog roaming though.
