I think all the muscovies died in their shell. At least 4 pipped, but I haven't seen or heard anything. Not throwing them out yet, but I don't have much hope they are still alive in there. All the chicks hatched great in the same incubator and hatcher. I don't really have brooder space anyway, so maybe it's a good, though sad, thing.

Open one and have a look, sometimes the scovies are to large to turn in the egg, seems to be a harder breed of duck to hatch.

My feed bags are already filled to the to with dirt and plants are a for above that. I have 15 of them. What have I done!

Also put in 350 ft. of corn. Mind you, I live alone!

15!? We have 3 lol one is filed to the top but it was started inside and I don't know how much of it is any good. The other two are growing fast. We just added dirt to them. I'd say they're about halfway full but we live up the mountain so we're a little behind everyone else with plants. We planted about a 4' x 4' square of corn in our garden to try. It's exciting to see it come up :)

If you have extra, we'll take some off your hands for you lol

This morning I was watching the news and Joe had the wham cam thing going. He was asking people where does propane come from. Then he was asking people if they would cook a bird on the grill. People were appalled by the thought of cooking a bird on the grill. I guess no one makes chicken on the grill or know that chicken is a bird

Howdy All! I just saw this thread, and thought I'd pipe up. I'm in Erie, and new to raising chickens. My coop is 75% finished and a friend of mine has 5 hens and a rooster (buff orpingtons I believe) for me to start my flock once I've (well, mostly it's DH doing the hard labor) finished it. I'm excited to finally be "doing this" ---- raising chickens and having a mini farm on our .6 acre.
Welcome!,
Good idea! Here are the rowdies:
They are so cute! I remember when mine were so little!
its pretty funny....baby chick sometimes doesn't come when mama calls so mama goes back and baby hops on board....
Love that pic! Thanks for sharing!

We can help you with that excess!

I hope it works out for you! :/

I have a black mottled frizzled serama cockerel if anyone here is interested. He's almost 7 weeks and is the sweetest thing. Asking about $20 for him just because of all of the cool genes he carries.

stake----------re: potato bags or growing potatoes.............I have a whole lot of links on my pinterest site if you want to check them out.

One thing you might want to consider is putting a few holes in the bottom so it doesn't get tooo wet.............you probably already did that.

then lots of peat moss or other absorbing type of materials like vermiculite.............mixed with your soil.

I was told you had to start with SEED potatoes because reg potatoes are treated with stuff that makes them slow to sprout or grow..........but I have heard people have grown potatoes using potatoes that sprouted in the potato bin in their kitchen............so they just planted them!

you need like one eye on each potato.............if you decide to cut the potatoes.............

other than this..........I am not sure................

there are all kinds of problems that can occur.................

I basically ordered 6 organic seed potatoes and build a chicken wire cylinder and used straw on the edges and well mixed dirt in the middle.............I put more dirt and straw after they grew thru......but now they are way way big and growing on the outside of the cylinder................. based on what people said on here I will add more dirt and straw but not worry about it much.

see what happens.

Its important that they are not drowned or too dry------------because it takes a long time for the water to get all the way inside etc

and then they should be fed -------------I have used miracle grow soil...............so have not done any feeding yet.............maybe in a few weeks? I have to read and try as I go.

also ----I think there are some bugs that are specific to potatoes.................

What "apeeled" to me ( pun intended) was the no dig idea and basically put it in and add a bit now and then and just wait till fall! sounded do-able and maybe it works , maybe not?

this is my first attempt at this...........and I am just trying to follow stuff I have read..............at least what I remember!
