and here are some more suggestions for oral treatment until you can get her to vet...

Thank you. As long as my Internet keeps working I'm going to check those out and keep looking. I feel so bad for her and I feel like a horrible pet parent that I can't get her in immediately :/

I'm sure if you let us know what kind of 'friends' you think would be good for your coop/orp there will be plenty of neighborly offers of birds to help keep her company for the winter!

I've got some free roosters that would be happy to "comfort" your hen.

Maybe I am just to tired to be reading. I pictured you saying that from the corner of your mouth with a cigar in the other corner, and then a really evil looking grin...

Really I need to sleep

But really I am sure someone will have something to provide company or the hen

I've been MIA for some time. Been keeping up, but quiet. Graveyard shift does that to me. Finally done with that for a while.

Had an old, non-running tractor and implements sitting around. Someone stored by and bought it but asked me to sweeten the deal with a few roosters. Well, heck yeah! Got rid of 11! He wants to do the work of processing, go for it, my time runs short. Not like I don't have enough birds I can eat if I want to!
Lawn mower blew up, so had to find a " new" one, since a replacement engine cost more than I paid for it 5 years ago. Found an old one that took a little tinkering, but runs well and is a beast. Creeper gears on a lawn tractor? Yep, its got 'em. Wheel weights all around, too. Ugly, needs steering bushings and stuff, but gotta love a beater.

I've got three that are going to be re-homed as soon as the littlest is big enough to hold his own in a new flock....

Fisher.....is the answer to all questions "more chicks"?.....maybe some baby dorks....humm.....

How sweet are you! I enjoyed the visit, Tara gave me a hard time after you left for not picking your brain about the Hard Cider, she's like' 'ahhh Mom, isn't he the one that makes the awesome beverage?....well, did ya make any?'
Blarney we need to catch up. Dave decided he wants to go to the beach this weekend, and since he doesn't request much. We are going to the beach! :) Maybe next weekend?!?! If you have any Marans for sale, I lost my blue Maran, very disappointed about that. I put a radio in the coop to hopefully deter the fox... Since I caught my poor cat in the trap Vs the fox. He is now in the ICU with the one chicken that was injured. He is just limping now, glad i have all my medical stuff for my Chickens. I really hate that fox.

Okay peeps, any bird cooling tips? It's so hot out there and while I was out running errands two of my girls jumped in and got stuck in the garden. I don't care that they snacked on and dug up a fair amount of the garden, but they were without water for maybe a few hours!

Of course I got them fresh water with ice right away and they seem okay now. But all my chooks are super hot. And yesterday they did not appreciate an occasional sprinkle with the garden hose for cooling...

Awe poor ladies. Maybe put some water in that area in case it happens again?

I am glad I hadn't taken the survey! Looks like it was a problem for a lot of people.... Purina dropped the ball big time on this one, I think!

Lots of unhappy people now...
Yeah, they messed that up bad. I didn't even get to answer any questions and it said not eligible. Really? How did they get that information? I clicked it again and it said all the survey had reached it's max. Very bad survey.

Happy Thursday!

We have our runs in the woods, with the exception of the meat birds who are under a tarp, we keep 2 liter bottles of water in the freezer and put them in the run with the meaties on extra hot days. Keep fresh water available always, I've read that chopping and freezing mint with water in ice cube trays is a great cooling treat for the chickies too.

Annie, I have been asupplementing the water with electrolytes, adding a bit of apple cider vinegar, adding ice cubes and fresh mint - all in the waterer. Also of course keeping adequate shade. I also added a pan of cool water for them to play in if they want along with a bottle if frozen water. Hoping that is enough.

Thanks for the tips guys! @roseschickies. Those girls you sold me are egg laying machines! I thought production had slowed down because of the heat, but today I found the secret laying spot, haha! We heard the egg song and only saw five chickens, so after a quick search, I found the elusive one with a pile of eggs!

Looks like just hosta next to the covered porch.....
