First eggs finally for first time chicken owners.the small one was outside in the run the other was in the nest box. Our roo was going nuts during this. I thought something was trying to get them.

I was working in my garden tonight. It's been a bad year for my veggies. Something ate all my peas and green beans. Half of my squash plants died and tonight I noticed great big green caterpillars all over my tomato plants! Ugh! 

I feel your pain. Squash borers got most of my squash and all of my pumpkins this year. Feed those tomato caterpillars to your chooks. They will love you for it.

Yeah I pretty new to this. I'm looking for some layers that give big brown eggs and are also friendly. My kids want to be able to hold them every once and a while too. Any thoughts?

once they get going its contagious...it usually goes like this....egg song followed by main Roo  joining in, other big girls hear the Roo and join in the alert....Second Roo sounds General Quarters and the 'young'ins' take cover and he will keep sounding off until main Roo goes quiet....(repeat a 100 times)

Hello from Jefferson county, PA. I have officially successfully incubated 1 time and getting ready to start a second batch only guineas this time instead of chickens. My hatch rate was little to be desired but ash least some hatched! The second time around hopefully I'll have some better handle on things!

That's pretty much what we were looking for when we started (just this spring/summer). We ended up getting a mix of Rhode Island Reds and Black Australorps. My girls (6 and 3) adore them and play with them every day

Anybody that lives in or around Lancaster could you please help? I want to take on family on a weekend trip to your area and would like to know some must see places. So far on my list is : Bird-in-Hand farmers market, The Green Dragon, Dutch Wonderland, and Strasburg Rail Road. Anything I am missing? Any recommend places to stay? Looking to go in about two weeks.
