Hi everyone. I figured I would say hi and let you all know I live south of Pittsburgh. I have 8 chickens and 7 hens 1 rooster. Of course all we're suppose to be hens

Anyway I am still working on getting coop / run finished. It seems like it is taking forever. Thanks

Welcome to the wonderful world of poultry!

I see you discovered the joys of "just in time coop building" too. I'm constantly trying to keep ahead of our growing flock.

Hello PSC from north of Pittsburgh. I too am working on getting my coop done. My 8 pullets

are tying up my chicken tractor so my CX meat birds are stuck in their now too small brooder.

Hopefully all will get caught up this weekend.

OK, so as I investigate the property for edible's so far I have 3 black walnut tree's, this hickory nut tree, and I am told the side yard has 3 silver maple( not sure which one's) ..

Will the hickory nut grow another nut tree if planted, or is that wishful thinking? May not benefit me, but a future generation might like it.

Also found some bushes that looked like they had some kind of berries on at one time.

I have a chestnut tree. Unbelievable how many nuts it drops. I am not a fan of them tho

. Want some when they drop?

Hi Everyone,
I'm in West Goshen. I only have two chickens left and would love more. It looks from your posts that there are no problems with different ages. Just winter issues. The pair I hhsbe are pretty cute, like a couple of pups that hang together and look out for each other but as their numbers have dwindled they seem to have stopped laying. Maybe I should recognize that I live in an area with too many predators.

Hello there!

I grew up in East Goshen Twp.! Although now I am out in West Caln (north of Coatesville).
Welcome to the thread!

This morning I decided to not let chickens out to free range, I have let them out first thing every morning since we got them in May. My daughter told me there were puppies on the porch, I thought she was making it up because our dogs were inside with us.
These girls are so sweet but I would never trust a strange dog around my chickens! I am sooo thankful something made me not let them out! After a few hours I think I found the owner several miles away!

They are gorgeous, Hope the owner keeps them contained in the future though.

Good evening all:

Went out to check on the chooks after work...one did not make it back to the coop....of course its one of the CCL pullets....hope she shows up in the morning....her and three others have learned how to 'jump the fence'....the others made it back...who knows....
