The birds are all gone. The couple that have the chicken hens and breeding trio of Bourbon Reds were very happy with how all the birds look. The couple brought two toms to their place to butcher, but came back with money. A friend of theirs lost his tom a day or so ago, and he couldn't get over how gorgeous my boys are. :yesss:  No one went to freezer camp.
Good bye, everyone. I will KIT.

I realize this is a happy post.... But, but...:hit

You will be missed. Please don't be a stranger

This has NOTHING to do with chickens but, I'm curious. Being that it's almost Halloween, does anyone have any ghost stories? I'm taking about real experiences that you've had. When I was younger, my parents surprised me one day with something that I'd always wanted, a piano. I loved that thing and would play it all the time. One strange thing though, when I would play it, sometimes I would smell something that smelled like cherry pipe tobacco. I loved that smell. It didn't do it all the time but it did often and I always thought it was just certain keys or something. After I moved out and took my piano with me, I never smelled it again. I later found out that my Pappy, who I'd never met and who lived in that house before we did smoked cherry pipe tobacco :)

Lemme see, ghost stories:
In the house that my mother grew up in (before it burned down & only parts were rebuilt) there lived a ghost. In the 2nd floor of the original section of the house there were 4 bedrooms & a bathroom. My mother's room was directly at the top of the stairs at the back of the house, her 2 youngest brothers shared the room to the right in the front, her 2 younger sisters shared the room to the left in the front, her oldest brother (younger than my mom & her sisters, but the oldest of the boys) had the room in the back at the top of the stairs. The bathroom was to the left at the end of the hall exactly beside that bedroom. It was in that small bedroom & the bathroom that the ghost lived. You could just feel the presence when you walked into the room. Strange things happened in those rooms more than the other rooms upstairs. In my mother's room, the door would occasionally open & close itself in the middle of the night...which was rather creepy since this was my room for the year that we lived there. But in the bathroom & small bedroom things got even more strange. Lights turned themselves on & off, water turned itself on & off, toilets flushed themselves, the shower would turn itself on & off (which was especially creepy if you were IN the shower when it happened), doors opened & closed on their own & the toilet paper unrolled itself. Needless to say, at 10 years old, while we were living there, I chose to go all the way downstairs to use one of the bathrooms down there, even in the middle of the night. It was bad enough having my door open & close itself in the middle of the night.

I have only been getting 1 egg the past few days. figured they stopped laying from molting and the fact that it's been colder and shorter days here in Kersey. Last summer they laid in the rabbit hutch but haven't laid since end of summer last year....well guess what I found when I checked the rabbit hutch? eggs! I had a feeling when I saw Nugget go into the hutch yesterday. Of course the only way to get eggs out of the rabbit hutch is with a freaking shovel and even then I break 25% of the eggs! ugh. I wanted to collect them to hatch them since I am setting some eggs on Friday. If I collect them do you think they will hatch? since sitting in the cold lastnight?

There are plenty of stories on here of folks getting eggs from the fridge and them still hatching, it certainly isn't ideal, and percentages would be lower, but it does happen. I would be more concerned over the age of the eggs rather than the temps, actually. Viability diminishes as the eggs age, under 7 days is considered best in general, 10 days is still pretty good and beyond that the hatch percentages usually fall off, but there are always exceptions and I don't know how many you found, or how long they have been laying, so I would say go for it but the eggs may be more prone to going bad so candling frequently may be more important than usual.

It looks as if there are only 2 days of eggs in there. I wont be able to tell for sure until I get them out, But it adds up. I've been getting 1 egg for 2-3 days. I am going to wait untl evryone had their turn then taking them out, blocking the hutch. add golf balls to the coop and just keep them in there a little longer tomorrow. See what I get for being nice and lettign them out early? I wanted eggs last night, too but didn't have enough! I keep tellign my Husband that we need more layers...HE finally agrred lastnight when we didn't have any eggs, so I don't think i'll tell him I found the eggs. I'll just sneak them in the incubator.

I think I have a incubation problem.

I dont think the net would work. I'll try to explain this to my best ability. But it's a rabbit hutch where they laid their eggs. It's deeper then I can get into without crawling the entire way in and it's about 5 ft tall. But it has a built in nesting box which is fastically just four pieced os wood making a square with a little roof on top of that. That is where they lay their eggs. it's not very big. But I dont think I would fit a net inside there, and if I could not sure if it would be able to get the eggs over the wood ledge. here is apicture of the hutch with the chickens in it last year...5/7 laid their first eggs in here.

this is the nesting boxes. first time they both laid their eggs. these two are always together.

waiting her turn to lay her egg

Ghost story:

When I was a teenager I would get a feeling that someone was standing over me and watching me. I woke up and seen a man standing in my doorway and I started to scream. (my room was an odd shaped and didn't have a real door just a folding door that the dog would push open and it never was closed) My mom came out of her room and the man disappeared. I really thought someone had came into the house and was going to hurt me. (My mom never locked the back door)

This man would come and watch me on many nights. I just got used to him standing there staring at me. He was dressed in old suit and old ribbon type of tie and he wore a hat.

Recent ghost story:

In the past few months I was sitting on the couch, after my husband went to bed, drinking a cup of tea. The tea was in a cup holder in the couch. I was watching tv and out of the corner of my eye I see my tea cup start to spin around and I turned my head to watch it spin. Then I got the coldest feeling on my elbow next to the tea cup. My elbow got ice cold and the rest of my body stayed normal temperature.

Ghost story:

I met my husband9 years ago and he had a stereo that plaid cd's cassettes and records. The cassette door would always open no matter how many time you closed it. His dad's radio would always come on. And He swears he used to see a bearded man standing at his doorway when he was younger. At night sometimes you would lose the ability to move/talk and it would feel as if someone was sitting on your chest. You felt like would were waving you hands all around but in reality only your pinky would be twitching some, not enough for the person sleeping beside you to notice anything was wrong. I hated that.

I don't know if this is a ghost or if we just need a new door but our house door keeps flying open past few days. now wind or anything, it woud just slowly open like it would as if someone was coming into the house. I'm waiting for it to slam shut too.
