Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hopefully no more filling water bottles for the rabbits! Just finished a nipple system with brass spring loaded nipples in PVC. Found a 16 gallon heated stock tub and using a pond pump for continuous circulation so it doesn't freeze. Still need to carry water, but no more frozen bottles (I hope).

Now to figure out how to circulate up the hill for the chickens.

My kitties always get the "spare parts" plus they get the bones once I boil them down for broth.

I was mia for a few days, so kinda lost track of the egg conversation. Could the people who had eggs to swap with me please pm me?

There has been progress on the cabin. Bathroom walls are up, wood stove is in, ladder for 1 loft is done, appliances are moved in. Still need the curtains up around my bed (which is to my left & can't really be seen in the pic. My washer is to the right. I'm standing just inside the front door looking at the back door.

looking good! Do you mind me asking where you got your cabin from? Hubby and I have been talking about buying a few acres (eventually) and doing something like this too.

Old Hickory is the builder. Google them for the supplier closest to you. As you saw, it comes as an empty shell. They put in windows, doors, lofts & shelves if you want them. You can buy outright or make payments. They deliver & level...then you're on your own.

I am 120 posts behind. We are about to head out to. Hershey for a gymnastics meet, I'll catch up reading on the way if I can convince DH to drive. I'm sure I'll pass a few of you along the way....

Planning to move about 40 chickens into their final breeder pens today. Hopefully, all the simultaneous upheaval will make it easier to work out the new pecking orders everywhere.

Not buying the 80 and 90 percent. That would take quite a few generations and I'm not sure they've been imported that long, lol.

Yeah, I'm a skeptic, my family motto is " you can't prove that " (pictures don't count, we have family members who are very good with Photoshop and CGI ;) we have family portraits that were made over time in different locations and most people can't tell)

You're spot on there. I didn't do the math on that one, I couldn't get past the fact that any breeder investing in the Ayam Cemani would NOT risk it crossing out.

Warning gross subject, if bothered by that, please do not read..

With processing on a regular basis of about 40 per week, I am accumulating a mass of innards that people do not want. I can only eat so many.
I watch the cat's take off with heads out of the bucket, so could I freeze some of these and feed to the cat's on a regular schedule along with the innards.
Wouldn't this be what would get fed for a raw diet anyway

Wow! You work quick girl. None of :sickmy birds (the few I have left) are laying, we are eating store bought eggs.

I still have frozen eggs if I really want eggs, but I refuse to buy store eggs. Or store chicken & turkey. Come spring, we're hoping to get a couple pigs, so no more store pork by this time next year. Beef will have to remain a store commodity, however, as we definitely don't have room for cows. Looking for a couple milk goats tho...lol
The goal is to get solar panels & be totally off-grid within 2 years. Our only public utility at this point is electric...so it's do-able.

Awesome! Have you ever considered bison instead of cows? I'm sure they're probably harder to come by, but it's an interesting idea. The meat is delicious.

Off topic, but since we are all animal experienced... Does anyone have any experience with Chinchillas (the live ones, not granny's coat). Hubby is looking into it, but I'm not convinced. Looks like they poop a lot and need dust baths, etc. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

What are the plans for raising them? Pets, pelts, or meat?
They are just a breed of rabbit. They are a little on the expensive side for meat, there are cheaper options for that purpose.
Yes, rabbits poop. It's good for plants, no need to compost.
