For what it is worth: I have my rabbits in an unheated shed. They use nipples similar to those used for chickens, except brass and spring loaded. I have a 16 gallon heated tub from tsc ($70) I put a circulating pump in it to circulate the water through the PVC pipe the nipples are in. There is about 60 feet of pipe. It seems to be working. I like I just dump water in the tub and don't have to fill bottles for 16 cages and try to keep them thawed. The tub is plugged into a thermocube.

I suppose something similar could be done with a chicken water system.
Love this idea, we have our rabbits in the basement this winter, but they'll be moved outside permanently come Spring. Filling up water bottles for just two rabbits is a chore and I'm not even dealing with freezing, outside temps yet. Definitely using this idea when we move them outside and start breeding them in the Spring. Awesome that it is workable even in winter. I think I spoiled myself with a once a week water change for the chickens (did I tell you how much I love my bucket? lol). Filling up water bottles for the rabbits every day is annoying! haha.

I never knew about submersible deicers... I think that sounds perfect. I'd like to add a heat lamp to the coop, but DH worries too much about fire hazards. I really need to get my butt in gear to properly seal up the drafts in the coop, the chickens seem just fine and the clear roof really helps to warm it up during the day, but I feel bad because it's so cold out there... I've never had outdoor 'pets' before so I feel weird leaving them out there.

This is my food dish folder I will probably make a single one in the summer..I really need 3 with 24 chickens

Love the food dish holder! I have a bucket feeder for their pellet/dry food, but this would work great for their treats... I often bring them kitchen/veggie scraps and I don't like putting them on the ground if it's wet (the ground or the food) so I just grab a plastic food container (a junky one, like for Chinese takeout), but they are always getting lost in the run and by the time I go in after them they are filthy. If I had something like this I'd probably give them more treats or venture into fermented feed.

Fria is doing better every day but she's still having some crop issues. It's not emptying completely overnight. She's getting a scrambled egg with some olive oil and yogurt every day and ACV in her water. Her appetite is still (she's on my shoulder right now, trying to get my chili lol). Today is day 4 that she's been in the house and hubby is starting to get annoyed by that (I'm not, she's becoming my little buddy lol). How long does it usually take recovery for sour crop? I'm trying not to vomit her though I did this morning before I fed her and a couple small pieces of grass are still coming out. She can't have a blockage since she's still pooping just fine, right?

In other news, wish me luck! I set 40 eggs this morning :) (thanks @dheltzel)

my flock was thrilled earlier. We threw 2 bags of leaves and half a bale of straw in the run for them. I tossed some scratch in and they were just having a field day digging around lol

Best of luck with those eggs. Hope you get 40 chicks!

It is possible that she ate a long piece of grass or hay and it rolled up into a ball in her crop and is not passing on through, this can slow down the crop emptying and cause bird to be prone to the sour crop since the food sets in there for so long. If she does have a long piece of grass caught up I'm not sure how long it would take to clear but since it has been 4 days and you still got a piece of grass out of her crop I'd say it hasn't fully emptied yet.
Hopefully someone with more first hand experience on it can chime in.

As long as I manage to get wood dry enough to burn we are ok...unless I sleep through the alarm to wake my butt up to check the stove. My cabin is only 12x32 so would heat easily with just the stove if the insulation was in. I do have a small electric heater in the kitchen under the kids' loft to keep my pressure tank & hoses from freezing. The kids stay much warmer than I do since heat rises. I'm fishing out the extra blankets tonight. We each have 3-6 already and I have another 2-3 each stashed. We're good. The kids also both have coveralls they can sleep in if they get too cold.
Me either. Can't count the number of times I've had to stop myself from pounding her ugly obnoxious face in...but I don't have bail money or anyone to stay with the littles or it would be SOOOO worth it.
My grandmother is in a similar situation, minus all the other people. It is just her by herself. She recently got her farm back that she has been fighting in court over for years. Her brothers had it for a while and destroyed it-strip mining, logging, tearing all of the old, old buildings down. They were in very good condition, they just did not like them. The big stone farm house and barns and massive garage, all gone. So she has to live in a trailer with no electricity, heat, stove, nothing. No one wants to help her cut wood or establish her well or anything and she is dirt poor.

Know the feeling. Plus, today I got several calls from my landlord about building permits no one knew we needed. Apparently the trouble causing neighbor across the road is still at it. Landlord said it was the same one causing her problems when she lived out here. They are trying to make it so we can't stay in the cabin until all the permits are done, an actual foundation is built (not possible in this weather), etc. I haven't gotten a call back from the county or anything in writing from anyone, so I'm staying put until I do.
