Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I walked into TSC the other day and my heart slipped a beat when I saw the chick days stuff all set up lol. Even though they weren't there yet and I have 18 here now and more due to hatch next weekend, I can't help but be excited. I'm not allowed to get any though. Hubby's rules. "I have too many Already"

Ideal has bbw poults on special for this week's hatch. You have to order 20 to get the sale price. I ordered 20 bbw & 25 red-sexlink males as tutors. Those should fill my freezer nicely in a few months. I really wanted cx broilers or heavy breed pullets, but those are both sold out til the end of April. Ahh well, extra roos taste just as good.

I may have a few extra poults in a couple weeks if anyone "needs" any meat turkeys.

Just putting it out there i'll probably need some eggs for the easter HAL, because my girls aren't laying and I have no way of putting a light in the coop.

edit: not looking for anything in particular, and not looking to spend much.

"Just don't really need more"? Who are you and why are you here?

I started to say - when you have over 300 eggs in the incubator and just pulled 50 chicks from the hatcher, you really don't need any more.
Then I remembered that I'm already thinking about the new breeds that I want to acquire this year, so I sort of have to agree with your sentiment. I may not "need" more, but I certainly want more.

On that topic, anyone thinking about a pet turkey this year? I have some of the most adorable little Midget White poults. They are so friendly, even at just a week old. I'd like to see the extras we can't keep go to someone that will keep them as pets like we do. Turkeys are not as practical as chickens for producing eggs, but our Midget White hens outdo our larger turkeys at least 2 to 1 in egg production. The eggs are smaller than from the Black Mottled hens, but so many more of them.

Let me know prices. Definitely interested in poults. My first of any breed always become my breeders so will be spoiled babies. Just don't ask where their babies will go...lol

I currently have 8 very spoiled breeder turkeys. Stinkers will even follow me in the house if I don't close the door fast enough.

I have you on my list, but I don't think I could ship them. Maybe we'll get our own "poultry express" going across the state(s) someday. Eggs I could ship, but they are not hatching well for me, and I think adding a trip through the postal service is likely to kill the few that start out the trip viable.

I'm hoping warm weather tilts the hatch percentage (and egg production) into better territory.

So I moved the babies out to the garage brooder today. They were too cramped in the little brooder inside. I have 2 heat lamps on them and a light tarp over the top. I'm hoping it'll stay warm enough for them. They look content but they're sleeping in a pile. Think they'll be ok? There's no heat in the garage.

Eggs would be fine too. Trying to get a Dickey Cabinet soon. That should greatly increase my hatch rate over the styro bators I've been using.

Yay! I am finally caught up, was 2 weeks behind. I didn't get on since we all had the flu and then got behind and didn't feel like catching up. I am all caught up!

Welcome to all the new people!!!

It has been so bitterly cold here and all the snow I am so waiting for summer to come

My little silkie's eggs never hatched, they froze. She is still sitting (not on any eggs though) I think we will have to give her some chicks to take care of.

My son hasn't been to school on a Monday since last year! Tomorrow we will have another 2 hour delay because of the cold. Today felt like a heat wave, made it in the 20's. Felt good going out to take care of the crew and not feel like my face will fall off!!! Tonight we are supposed to be -8 again (without the windchill)
