Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

lord do i need the one for the upset stomach lately, thanks , not sure but my other half might know what the plantain is since he was raised up here and i'm sure we have it, seems we have lots of weeds on the 5 acres

It's everywhere, once you see a pic identifying it, you'll say "oh, yeah, we have that everywhere". There are 2 varieties and they seldom grow together, one or the other wins in certain places. It's not up much yet, but there will be new leaves popping up soon (I hope).

DHeltzel, I am now registered with the state as an under 1000 a year farm to customer producer... I do have some guidelines and the state has stopped to check us out, and also I need to keep records now and reports sales which translates to paying taxes on it. All of this is a major reason as to why we raised the prices...

I'm looking for baby silkies or silkie hatching eggs! OR anyone willing to ship silkie hatching eggs. I feel like they'd get here faster than if I bought them somewhere else.
I just picked up some silkie chicks from Liz Webb,(contacted her through facebook) not sure of her name here. She had some blues and partridge babies. Beautiful parent stock. She is in south east pa, not sure where you are located.

LMP:

The story on the B-17 is interesting...I did a video on it when I worked for Boeing...it was restored by the Boeing Engineering Society at Dover AFB....the bird lost an engine after take off...and continued on...lost a second engine in route and continued on....dropped her payload,,,,,then lost a third engine and emergency landed in Switzerland...was interned for the war and was sold to Sweden....flew for a number of years dong geographic photography...then was cut up with a chain saw and piled in a corner of a hanger...Boeing Engineers, rebuilt her and she was one of three ....another one went down...now there is two...my uncle was a Pilot and spent most of his post WWII career taking old birds to the junk yard....

yep, its chilly here, but its warming up....just me being a pud....should've had a drop but was trying to close the season....first time a tank of oil hasn't lasted a season....and I ignored how bad February was...my fault. c'est la vie
Very interesting indeed!! Had no-idea there were so few left...and this one has an awesome history!
I have seen pictures of "aircraft graveyards"...so much history, from all spectrums...would be really neat to walk through one sometime.
Get 10 gallons of kerosene our diesel from the gas station. Both work, diesel is essentially the same as fuel oil, kero supper close. Been told by the oil company and techs it causes no problem.

Been there, done that.
i forgot all about Kero..geesh..can't tell you how many times we have done that..not because we forgot to fill the tank, but because just couldn't afford to..anyway..it does work just fine without any issues to the furnace..we have steam heat-(radiators)..Burnham boiler system...

Oh, the raspberries/blackberries you sent this way are doing so well! There are vines all over the place..hahaha, we had put up trellis last year, maybe we will get a few berries this year. We are going to have to move the blueberries & enlarge the strawberries, runners are taking over...have plans for the perma-garden/yard thing...lots of digging/planting and more planning...fun!!

I am excited about this warmer weather, but unfortunately have to recover..as much as possible before I can play in the dirt...so, slow & easy for me..which is

***Hope you are well, winter was kind to ya....I know your ready and raring to get out there too!

Up here we call that "deer food."It is one of the things planted in fields as a deer attractant and winter food.

Kind of like squid, on the west coast it is "calamari", here it is "bait."

Just kidding! This coming from the guy who eats dandelion and a number of other weeds out of his yard, plantain, sweet clover....

If you like collards, you'd probably enjoy dandelion, just make sure you get it very young from am area they don't use chemicals. Good cooked or on a salad. Very few people steal my lunch at work.
now that lunch would not be safe with me

My dad was a navigator during WWII, his crew was one of the first to complete their 25 missions so they could come home. Had to do a belly landing twice do to shrample damage.

I'm located in SW PA, just south of the Butler County line in Beaver County. Will be looking for Buff Orpingtons or Australorps soon if anybody in the area knows of some (can't have chicks at this time so need them a little older) :( There's another thread about that out there somewhere. :)
hello & welcome...
I started with older pullets too..made it an easier intro. to chicken keeping...wasn't too long..had an incubator..eggs..and chicks...hahahha, I guess that's just the natural order of the "mania"..hahaha
Just stopping in to say Hello
Time is in short supply around here lately. Hope everyone is well, not reading back all those missed pages...
Could use a little advice though..

We raised our chicken prices to $2 a pound this year and people are backing out saying they can buy it at the store cheaper. Well if they can find chemical free chicken cheaper elsewhere, I say let them.

Just curious on opinion on this matter..
Guess I need to go set up some advertising since I am now sitting on unsold chicken...

The newest set of nuggets found the water quickly. Sure don't want dry nuggets

This one seems a little mad about something
love those nuggets *Wing!!!!..looks like you just tossed a bunch of cotton balls everywhere hahaha...omgosh..look at that attitude!!..hahahahha ..little warrior!

Bunch of tight-wads down there..$2.00 is VERY cheap for the product you are supplying!! ...don't even think on it Wing..they will come back around when they get a taste of "grocery store" birds..finally remove their heads from their derrieres...
