lol. Do you not own a truck? Could you just load the bags in the truck? If I wanted I could load all the bags in the gator but its only about a 300ft walk.... My mom had a hysterectomy about a yr ago and at that time they had just got a puppy a few weeks before and she said it was the worst not being able to hold it! She was only allowed to hold 2 lbs at a time. I do not know what inspired them to get a puppy right before her surgery?
That lovely steep bank is between my driveway & the coop. That's as close as I can get.

Another member here had and may again have a market for them, I think it's primarily an Asian market?

There are some people who value the eggs. They are said to have high nutritional value. Current prices seem to be in the $3/ dozen area.

I'm just starting them, we'll see. I am always eat them. I try not to raise anything that can't be used in some way. Trees that I plant provide fruit, nuts or firewood, animals provide some sort of food. Only exception is my dog. She's purely companionship since I'm alone most of the time.

I already have people asking if I'm going to have turkey this year. Now to get some to hatch!

I'm interested to hear how the turkey eggs are doing. I didn't know you had quail too, I could have packed some of those for you too.

Our first run with our Hova-Bator was great. We set 32 of our chicken eggs, pulled 1 at day 14 during candling, disposed of another 1 the day before hatching started that had a tiny crack and started oozing smelliness. 3 eggs quit although the chicks seemed to be fully developed and we have 27 little fluffy butts who are eating their fermented food like crazy!

Congrats! That sounds great, and they certainly are cuties!

Hey Wingstone!

I am doing a hatching egg run tomorrow.... going to the source I got my Barred Rocks from, do you want some more? My broodies are looking to have something to keep them busy, so can let them hatch and raise for a while and then get them out to you before they become obnoxious teenagers! LOL

So I put 41 eggs in the incubator, and only 6 were fertile!!! What the heck?!?

That's only 15% fertility! My roo's only 2... most of the girls won't let him mount them though. The eggs that are fertile are from the only one that does.

Just wondering, if you removed his favorite from his presence would he turn his attentions to another?  Or if you penned him with one or two different hens, would he become interested in them?
That seems strange behavior for a healthy roo.  When I had one with 14 hens, all my eggs were fertile.

I mean, I'm not all that concerned... he's the best roo I've ever had. One of his comb tips finally fell off a few days ago, it was black forever (frostbite). Maybe that had something to do with it. Oh well, I'm sure I can do plenty of fertility tests in the summer ;).

Only 2 out of 4 girls will actually let him mount them. The other two run away when he tries to. One of the two that lets him eggs are just never ever fertile, so I think she rejects his sperm.

That figures, since the man who was selling the eggs I bought years ago was Asian. Heh, I should have been selling my eggs instead of hatching them. Those little buggers were pretty prolific as I recall, and I probably wasn`t doing things to the best practices.

Smart to always look for ways to use what you raise/grow. Companionship is important too, so the dog is maybe most valuable. Priceless?

I had turkeys off and on, just for pets though. Need to keep a low profile now so don`t want to risk having a lot of cool things I might have to get rid of.

Any particular breed of turkey you prefer as a meat bird?
