If you can till it up really well, do that, then plant the strawberries. If you rake it after tilling, a lot of the weeds will get pulled off, the rest you will just need to pull as they come back, but with the ground tilled and the weeds not well rooted, they will pull very easily. Dandelions are the very favorite for all my poultry, from chickens to peas.

Planting peppers and tomatoes now is pretty safe. The critical thing for crops is the night temps, now that they are mostly above 50, the plants will really start to grow fast.

Chickens like dandelions? I have a farm growing in my front yard! Will have to try that later today...

If you got clover, they like that also

Can chickens digest ground up bone?

I was given a few whole birds that got freezer burnt rather badly, so I ground them for cat food, skin, bone and meat all combined and raw, the chickens that free range will not stay out of the cat food and they gobble up this mash quickly. I am OK with them eating the chicken but not sure of the ground up bone pieces

Think of it like oyster shell, or grit with lots of calcium?

Dandelions are their favorite, and exceptionally good for them too, even the flowers. I've found myself pulling the leaves and feeling disappointment when I get part of the root because I know it will take a lot longer for it to re-grow for the chickens to eat

Chicken keeping changes you, it really does.

As mentioned, clover is also very good, as are most of the weeds you pull from the garden, like lambsquarter and purslane.

Kind of what I was thinking, just wondering if they get anything from the bone or if it is treated like a little pebble in the gizzard

Rogers in Ohio sometimes has keats-

It's on Fridays

At 6pm...they had adult guineas last time I went. Mt Hope Swap (Ohio) is next weekend Fri & Sat 15-16th. A lady named Sherry always has silkies & lavender guineas. Her friend Judy always has coturnix quail.

I hope no one is offended by this. This was on my husband's tech forum and I thought it was cute.

I know the girls like plantain, and those naughty girls have eaten a lot of my Hosta already, which is related to plantain. :old

Indeed chicken keeping does change you. Good changes so far, except when somebody asks me about my chickens and I can't shut up. Or sometimes they don't even ask.... :duc
