Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Had the chicks outside to roam around the yard for a couple hours yesterday evening. They had water available them during there time in the great outdoors. Seems like every time I take them outside for a little bit of pecking in the grass and then I put them back in there brooder they go running over to there food and start eating like they haven't seen it in weeks. Is this normal for the little buggers? They are 6 & 7 weeks old if that makes a difference.
My chicks do that every time. They also have access to water and I usually give them some treats when they are out so they can scratch around at them. I know they can't possibly be as hungry as they appear to be!

For some of you, family is everything, for us family is one big nightmare..
we are seriously considering getting out of the present situation and just moving away. so i may be running some places by you, if anyone is in these area's can you tell me a little about the area.
we are not looking for actual farmland, but we do need to be able to keep animals..

anyone know anything about this area..this place looks like a dream come true for us, but we know pictures are decieving.

Wing:

Not to opine to  much,,,,but, bullies push until the get a bloody nose....being passive...only encourages aggressive behaviors ......its all about carrots and sticks....hope things work out....my two cents...

If wing's family is anything like mine, it's better to just get as far away from them as possible & never look back.

What?!? I wanted to go to the Rogers poultry auction this summer! :( I didn't plan to buy anything anyway because of AI, but I just wanted to go to experience it.

Yup, Roger's can't do poultry now, but they can do everything else still.
chippysMom, Silkie is in Ohio. PA has shut down fairs, anything that is Supported by the state. Privately funded shows, swaps and auctions are open at their own discretion....for now. I got an e-mail last night that the PA fairs are now also including eggs and terminal (broiler) projects with the ban. Some of the 4-H project broilers were going to be shown and judged off fair grounds, the new email prohibits any 'congregating' of live birds, even if they're to be processed that evening- which was our plan....oh well.

Silkie....such a bummer, can you process your extras?

Already have an entire pen of meat roos

List it they will sell, I went to the 84 auction and there still selling poultry on mondays but didnt have very much, had a couple wanting to buy them right outta my truck, I got 5,00 for each of my roosters

The ban went into effect Tuesday.

this is the kind of family that out of 5 kids, 2 never grew up and they still want to count jelly beans to see who got more..and you are right, my husband has always just kept his mouth shut and left them do it. they know they can push him around and they make sure things are done when I am not there

not sure if it helps us or not but we have an appointment next week to see the lawyer, who by the way has started to dig into the situation, and came across another lawyer who has the original deed transfer ( a percentage)  he has a recorded conversation that says the intent of the father in law. for some reason he never followed thru with all of the paperwork...pretty sure i know who stepped in there, but how do yo prove it.

Yup, sounds just like the self centered donkey's rears I have to deal with in my family. Good luck girl!

silkie, you are spot on, and we have thought about walking away and never looking back...but at the same time. this is what defines us , it is what we do, has been our whole lives for many year's. while the other sibling's stood on the side lines and never broke a sweat..

let me add that they are also the well educated one's who play at the country club with their lawyer friends, and they look at us as being dumb as dirt..husband never went to college, he farmed right out of high school

Totally know how it goes. I've watched it with my own family & been dragged into the middle of it as well. I moved 2 hours away & stopped speaking to everyone but my mother & grandparents for 3 years. Didn't even speak to my father. I now live 30-45 minutes from most of the family & still only speak to a few of them. I added an aunt & my father (only because my 19 yr old is currently living there) back in, but not too many more. Life is so much less chaotic when jerks are cut out of the picture. Sometimes you just have to decide is staying put if worth all the stress or if you are better off starting over else where. For me, it was better to cut ties.

I'm the dumb 1 in my family...married 3 times, 6 kids, 3 college degrees I can't use & living in a 32ft camper with 2 kids. I much prefer my current situation to renting off of my aunt (made that mistake 20 yrs ago) & having her try to run my life & tell me what I can & can't do. She still keeps trying to contact me to get me to rent off her. I refuse to speak to her. Haven't in over a year.

you guy's distracted me from the question I had.

with the muddy, soggy garden the weeds are growing fast.. most are the one's I call red root...the birds are pulling them and eating them. anyone know if this is bad for them

Well it's good to know I don't have the only chicks that are "starving" when they free range

My chicks dive bomb the food bowl if I take it out for 2 minutes to refill it...even if there was half a bowl left. Goofy birds.

@Blarneyeggs my bf bought me a little tri-color nigerian dwarf buckling Wed!!! He's so stinking cute!!! He also got me a nubian/alpine cross doe in milk. She looks like a deer. The neighbors kept stopping & honking at her yesterday when I had her tied by the road...lol

Help! Just went out to feed and water the birds and I saw this little guy looks like he has a broken wing. It's just hanging down and he won't pick it up. I don't know if it is broken or could possibly be dislocated? Anything I can do? It looks like the whole wing is hanging low, from the shoulder.

*sorry about the blurry pictures, when I uploaded I realized that the 4 year old was the last to use the camera (there were some quite comical selfies on there) and she got some fingerprints on the lens.
