Just a quick pic! This little one had wiggled out from underneath Mama. I heard it cheeping and snapped a pic. I left the Mama alone, figuring she would be okay. When I checked back later, the chick was fairly cold but still alive. I just pushed it back under Mama. I'm think it should survive. I'm hearing at least two peeps now, but I had to go to work, so I can't peek until later! :jumpy

Well I couldn't catch Pete last night. I had hoped he would have figured out how to get back but I guess not. Have not seen him today and there's some feathers on the other side of the fence. Dang it. I am going to handle the next batch of chicks to prevent this. Lesson learned.

Sorry to hear, that's such a bummer. :hugs

wow after reading mother earth wine making, think i better just make grape juice then freeze or can it, can always make wine later, right now i don't have the equipment.

You don't need much. A glass container, a bung and an airlock for in it. I've made it, then put into canning jars and it was okay. I've since bought a corker and have wine bottles and the like. You'd obviously need a yeast and juice or fruit as well.

Hey there lady! Haven't seen you in forever!. :frow

So, I'm ending the quarantine for the new chickens I brought home, they aren't safe enough in the tractor so I'm locking them in the coop tonight with my main flock. I lost one of my new Delawares last night/this morning... One of the Delawares that I drove to Maryland and paid $20 for! I'm so frustrated with these predators! The new chickens aren't showing any signs of illness but it's only been a little over a week. The tractor is safe from flying predators that we've dealt with and there weren't any holes ripped in the wire so it must have been something smaller that could squeeze through a gap. Not sure where it would have dragged a chicken through, but the chicken is gone and there are quite a bit more feathers in there than normal. I'm not waiting for it to come back for another chicken, hopefully everyone can get along in the morning and there aren't any hidden illnesses.

Its been a long time since I've posted. I've had a different job for a little over a year and don't have as much net time as before.

If anyone is looking for guineas, I'd make a good deal on some that I hatched earlier this summer. I've also got some nice salmon Faverolles from this summer Favs are nice gentle birds. I'm about a half hour north of Harrisburg
