I need more fabric to finish the other window though. Just wish my camera was a little better so i could get a nicer pic.

The curtains look great and Cookie is looking very content...looks like the grafting was successful!

They look great, good job! Cookie is looking very pleased with herself again. You didn't tell her they not hers, did you?

Funny pic a friend sent me...

Remember that teeny Rhodebar practice egg I got the other day? It had the teensiest little yolk in it! About the size of a pea. The teeny egg is on the right side.

I'm thinking we have a couple of them in our coop too...but I prefer blaming it on hot weather or molting, not the 4y/o thing....

Thank you! The grafting was a perfect success :) I didn't tell her that they aren't hers but I have a feeling she's going to know when they outgrow her in a couple weeks. She's so tiny! Lol

I've got a couple free loaders hanging around here myself. Maple has only laid one egg since she finished her molt and that was about a month ago. I'm wondering if she's laying somewhere else but I haven't found any evidence of that. And then there's Penny, the adopted 4 year old who has never laid an egg since she's been here but taking her was a favor for a neighbor so she's just a permanent free loader. Then of course, we have the 6-7 month old girls who just refuse to start laying....

"better the devil you know" seems to be the reason they leave me alone, who knows what I might pick up next if I get tired of poultry . . .

I wonder if chipmunks make good pets?

I hear they are pretty cheeky. :lau

Ha!

So I heard the strangest thing from my vet yesterday. She is an Avian/Exotic vet and she told me she has chickens. (After I asked if she ever sees them to treat them). She said. "I just can't spay my own birds." What!? She explained that chickens have been bred to lay a lot for the first few years (duh!), and then they tend to get all kinds of ovarian problems and such and die early. She said if they are spayed they could live closer to 20 years. I love my girls but... There is a limit. I guess if you have a hammer, everything is nail!

Spaying chickens?! Ok, now I've heard everything.

I have an older hen who I thought was slacking off, I don't think I've seen an egg from her in a couple of weeks. When I Ickes her up to dust her for mites, I see she is molting. No wonder she has stopped! Sometimes the simplest explanations are the best. ;)

Yeppers:

Have a couple myself....I have six young'ins and only one has started to lay....though three eggs in five days is pretty good for a start! Amazing that I have no brown egg layers producing at the moment.....
