My daughter is going to raise meat rabbits. We raised them when she was small.
It tastes like chicken. Lol

What breeds are your bullies?
So remember how we had one surviving rabbit from our summer kindling? It was ready to be butchered, hubs was just waiting to take it over to his friend's house so he could show us the best way to process it for keeping the pelt, etc. Well, we officially have had three litters now with zero to show for it... a dog came in our yard yesterday and absolutely wreaked havoc while we were away. Ripped open the rabbit cage and took our rabbit (thankfully stopped at that cage and didn't touch mom or dad rabbit), tore the door open to the turkey shed and killed what was supposed to be our breeder hen that we got from ChicquesChicks, and got into the chicken run and took my favorite pullet that we had gotten from SilkieSensation.
When we got home yesterday afternoon my daughter spotted a chicken on our front porch, it was our rouge chicken who thinks it's a turkey and always goes in and out of the runs as she pleases so I didn't think much of it, other than it being odd that she came up to the front yard. I scooped her up to toss her back in the run and on my way around the house I see red feathers and then I see a dog that I don't know in the backyard. I don't really know what the damage is yet, I see Romeo out in the chicken run ready to defend his girls and a bunch of chickens in the coop. I only see one of our 4 turkeys. The dog doesn't seem aggressive toward me, so my first instinct is to clip it up on our line like I would any other neighbor dog that I know so I run in for a leash to take it to the front yard where the line is... hubs warned me not to go near the dog because we don't know it and to call the cops (he's pretty good at reminding me of common sense!). Dog goes off into the woods behind our house and Hubs spots a turkey in a tree in the woods so we go to collect it and do an inventory of our loss. Later that night as I was putting the kids to bed another turkey came home and perched on our porch railing for the night so the total loss was one turkey, one chicken, and one rabbit and no leads on the dog. I posted on the FB page for our neighborhood and someone said that they have had problems with that dog being aggressive toward him and his daughter so I'm glad Hubs wouldn't let me try to clip it up... although I'm ****** that it wasn't caught.
I went out this morning to feed everyone and the turkeys were afraid to go back into their shed. I let the sleep in the tree and on the porch last night because of all that happened, but they did not want to go home this morning. After surveying all the piles of feathers throughout the yard, I don't see any from the missing pullet, how is that possible? Could the dog have eaten a pullet without leaving feathers? If it was just taking refuge in the woods like the turkey, I would think it would have returned by now. I'm kicking myself now for letting them out of their cage within the coop two days ago... she would have been safe in the coop![]()
