hey guys my KC's are nearing laying age do you think ceramic eggs would encourage them to start laying??

Even if it does not change when they start laying it should help where they start laying...
Our chickens are 'monkey see, monkey do' for the egging thing, so having fake eggs where you want them to lay certainly can help when they are young.

Cool! I'm not used to seeing them until much drier and fluffier under the broodies....after you replied I looked at the big version of the picture and saw the chipmunk outlining in the dark yellow.
I hope more of them hatch for you and you get at least a trio....hopefully a quad!

I thought SPRs hatched black....not chipmunk...(AKA e-wildtype) (I think thats the genetic term)....and yellow??? very interesting, the red dorks hatch chipmunk too, might be confusing when my hatch happens....

If u weren't so far away from me I would watch them for u were r u moving to

Thanks, we will still hopefully moving in Bucks County. Pretty far from you, I'm sure.

:D Guess what?!

That's a great idea. Glad they are able to use a great natural resource. No if only we could turn chicken and cow poop into fuel cost effectively....

Please forgive me if I've gone picture happy!! I transferred my chickens from the indoor brooder to their coop this past Saturday. The first few nights I was quite nervous, but it seems that they are doing quite well. The coop will, admittedly, not suit our needs for long by itself, so the construction of a much larger and roomier addition is in the works. My hubby is much more excited about it that I would have thought!!! The fever is spreading!

In the meantime, the girls are enjoying the enclosed space of the box at night. Poor Tank will be getting a space of his own in the new addition, but he is currently unable, or unwilling, to walk his big butt up the ladder.

My cats had their first introduction to the birds on Saturday, too! My one year old, bird hunter, Maverick, was very interested... He still tries to sneak up on the coop, but I think he's pretty well resigned to the fact that he can't get to them. I felt fairly safe letting him observe with Mom close by!!

Here's A picture of the check fluffed up. I had it out, but when I opened the incubator I heard more cheeping. I decided to go ahead and put this one back in to encourage the others. I hope a few more hatch quickly. I'm not very good at listening to cheeping in the incubator.
Okay. I'll have to try again to post it later.
