Ana has a baby! It looks to be a little CCL cockerel. The first one that had died looked like it was a pullet, figures lol but I'm still happy. She's keeping him tucked under her well and sticking tight to the other two eggs. Hopefully they hatch tomorrow (and maybe one or both could be pullets lol) :)

great baby news!

that is  so totally old school...I have had people tell me about doing it that way...I haven't had anyone teach me these things, most learnt on my own, I will give mom & dad a call from time to time about canning issues. I will look more into this method, see what I can discover. Thank you for the information.:D ..I am trying to build my egg supply (freezer), so I am not having to.. BUY, :rant I can hardly even type that word, eggs in the middle of winter.
Yeah I'm from the old school. I have helped do canning all my life but I have personally never used a pressure canner by myself. I know there are some things that you 'never' can without a pressure cooker but old method works for me. Just make sure plenty of water in because cooking for 3hrs is a long time and you can't let it cook dry. ..... how do you freeze your eggs?

Since the Marans were from me, I'm surprised they did not go broody. My very first Prudie was a hatchery barrred rock.
i just saw this...duh..don't tell me things like this girl!!

..you know i just got 2 of those lovely's. They are so attentive, affectionate. It does pay to be really hands-on when they are chicks.
I really hope they don't do the "broody" thing, I have enough of that with the wyandottes.

The "time out" cage is still in the run, I am NOT clean it a third time...will wait till the weather starts to cool down to even think about taking it out!

OMgosh, 'popeye' is totally losing feathers right now, so who ever was asking about their chicken feathers being roughed -up and such, well..it is NOT too early for them to start to molt!!
Looks like someone exploded in the morning. The run looks like their was the "fight club" happening out there. I clean it up every evening. It is amazing she has anything left on her.
I will have to get a pic, she doesn't have a tail..she is a marans, so , yeah..you get the picture

I am going to try to integrate tomorrow. If things get to punchy, then they can go back into their little coop area. They are getting much bigger now, but they will still most likely get jumped when they are out, but I will keep an eye on things and make sure things don't get too carried away.
It baffles me that everyone does not just follow me around to all the threads that I post in.

I am kidding.
I began removing chicken wire from the run this morning, but stopped because I was getting too much rust dust in my eyes. You would think that I would have a ton of protective eyewear sitting around. That stuff got put away with my leathers. No clue where. So, I am going to have to wait until my shipment comes with my new goggles.
When I called the landscaper to order my crushed limestone, he said he'd be out soon.

I had just showered, and had to not only get dressed again, but get sweaty again too.

I now have 18 feet of wire removed from the sides of the run, and about four from the top. The back nine feet are filled in with the limestone. More tearing might happen today, but I might just continue working on the ground. Loosening soil, removing it and filling in.
On the plus side, the guy came back with a load of gravel to fill in a rut in my driveway. It was not a big rut, but it was definitely worth filling in.
Okay, the real plus side is that I have at least gotten started. Thanks to wonderful people here. Chaos and Fisherlady have been awesome as usual.
you have a landscaper?...what are ya doin'?...besides filling holes...

We were packing and ready to move to NY tomorrow, and my BIL called to tell us that he doesn't want our chickens anymore.

They just confirmed that they will come pick them up a couple days ago. I'm glad that our girls didn't go to such a unresponsible family anyway. Luckyly , hubby's cousin having 5 chickens will take our girls and the coop and run. They have a small coop but our coop is big enough for 11 girls. It's good to have a big family, so there's always someone can help. I even didn't know they have chickens until last week, or I'll let them take our girls instead of my BIL at the beginning . You know, we chicken people understand each other better.

last year I just cracked them into ice cube trays, after they froze, put them into baggies...but when I went to use them, the yolks were stiff, couldn't mix them into the white part properly. So, this year I am trying the "scramble" first, then freeze into cube trays...then baggies. I have some froze as experiments. We will see, I haven't used them yet. Guess I better get on that

He/they just cut my grass and whack my weeeds.
Rip holes in the runs, chop my power line to the coop, toss trash on the ground, mow my rhubarb, and weed whack my mint.
One cut back my lilac bush, but forgot my plum tree. Never got around to cutting it before handing over this area to the next guy.

Okay, I just realized how much I have been hogging this thread, so...going to keep this to a minimum. Sorry.

Garden was a jungle, got it under control...was away for a few days. Catching-up is always so much fun...

One the plus side, was able to harvest quite a few tomatoes. I have a pic of the issues I am having with the romas this year..it is really bad. Not going to get the amount of tomatoes we were hoping for. Some is better than none though.

When I weed, I use them as much in the rows. It works very well. We don't even have the grass clippings to cover the soil this year.
See what I mean about the toms.?! Awful!

Here is what I have so far...

I guess this could make a few jars of stewed tomatoes.

The storm that rolled through this past Wednesday, totally mangled the sunflowers, real bummer. Got some tied up again, lost a lot though. I like to use them as boredom busters in the winter for the girls.
