Sending you a pm...
Well, since it was obvious we had another broody hatch I thought I would share some pictures...

The hen is Jo, a silkie mix who happens to be a daughter of Gracie, our little white broody mama who is the frequent star of these posts...
This is her second brood this summer, so looking like she is following in her mama's footsteps.

She was an overachiever and hatched 7/8 of our silver pencil rocks.

We were hoping for 5 or 6, so happy we could share with Auroradream26!

I grabbed 2 for grafting and delivered them around lunch time at a midway meeting spot.

And Jo is perfectly content with her 5 pack!

I believe they were hatched 9/15/15

Found the original posts when I was trying to get a hold of you to let you know we had extra chicks... she is actually just shy of 11 months!

Wow, setting a record! She was only about 7 months old when she first went broody! She must've loved it so much she had to do it again lol.

Elsa has tried twice but rejected the first babies and was broken this second time from the really hot days.

Ana lost one of her babies this morning :( I'm not entirely sure what happened but a couple of the turkeys has gotten out so I'm thinking that they got a hold of the one and killed it. She still has one left. Hopefully, we get to see that one grow up. So upsetting :(

:hit I think I broke her! She touched the griddle, but her finger was fine after cold water. It's been two hours, and I just saw this. She isn't crying about it, but I feel horrible!

Is that her arm..shoulder?...i can not focus well today, sorry. If she isn't sore about that spot, maybe just put a little 'burn' cream on it. Oh..and give her a great big kiss and hug

I'm so sorry! :hugs
Coop accidents and conflicts are upsetting and frustrating to put it mildly but are an inherent risk we understand when we are 'flock raising'.

There are times I question the way I allow the broodies to raise them (usually after an accident), then I go back over all of the reasons I wanted to allow our flock to raise the chicks in a more 'natural way' to begin with and I am ok with our methods...
Our chicks get the benefits of adult instructions, discipline and flock hierarchy from early on, they miss out on the brooder illnesses which can so easily occur and they don't have any integration issues.

It is just a decision I have made for my flock method, sometimes it sucks bit most of the time it is a joy to watch...
