Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Anyone near Jim Thorpe? I just saw CL ad for cream legbar 1 yr old layers for$12 each!! If it wasn't so far I would jump on them. Guy says he is down sizing

I was out feeding the flock this morning when I spied a white object out in the "field"...its was a tiny white egg!!!! My first egg from my 6 pullets!! I think I know which of the two leghorns laid it. Now to get her to lay in the coop!! Since its tiny I put it in a laying box to help encourage laying inside! There are two golf balls in separate boxes too.

We got five leghorn chicks from feed mill this spring. Unfortunately due to a raccoon attack we lost 3 of the five.

Drove 5 hours back to State College last night and Hubby told me he didn't get Brownie ' s egg during last 3 or 4 days because every time he collected eggs Brownie is laying. Yeah, I know that better than him. Went to check Brownie this morning, she is broody! She's only 5 month old. She's not mean at all though and let me take eggs under her with just little complain. Because of this hot weather and knowing hubby not going to take her too well, I have to try to break her. But I'll drive back to NY tomorrow and will be State College the entire week of August 22. Should I just try to break her a week later? Any way to force her drink and eat?

Congratulations ! Don't need to put the egg there. A golf ball or ceramic egg works perfectly. It may take them several days to find the right place though.

The longer you wait, the harder it is.

I have another broody :/ These girls drive me crazy! Now that Ana is almost a week into raising her baby (which she's doing a wonderful job with), Daffodil has parked her butt in the nest and won't move. I guess I should be thankful that she didn't hide eggs this year. She always tries to go broody once a year. The only thing is that she's a production red lol. I might actualy let her have a chance at it this year and see how she does. I usually just break her but since Ana only ended up with 1 in the end, maybe I'll give daffodil a few.

Glad it's you! I know I wanted broody girls. They are great! But I need to break anymore for a while. At the very least, I plan on separating the SPR when the (OMG she doesn't have a name yet!

) oldest starts laying. By the time her eggs are big enough to hatch, I will know that only another SPR has been mating her.
Okay, I need to get a name for her. Aretha Franklin? Janice Joplin?
