the very light egg in the middle is the second in two days, very light & very tapered....so, which new girl is it??..
I look them over again today...
idunno.gif
, beats the heck out of me...wow...they are making this a game!
Louise has just a bit 'brighter' comb/wattles....so i am going with ..her. Who knows, doesn't really matter either, would just be nice to know..keeping track of these things you know.
At least I know when someone started laying....
In other news...after trying to grow carrots 3 different times & places this year
roll.png
, I do believe we are going to get some this year and right now I will take that!
The second planting of beans are doing well too, blossoms and all! That bunch to the far left is what is left over from the first planting...if it is going to keep giving, will keep picking.

DuBois is getting hammered ..it just keeps raining on them...feel bad for anyone over that way!

That picture almost make me cry. All my chickens went to their new home yesterday. Before they left, Molly spent half day cuddling with me and she tried to hide in coop when it's time to leave. For some reason, she seems know what's happening. I was so depressed yesterday.

My Welbar girl, Penny, she lays everyday, but her eggs are not very dark, although speckled. She was a sick chick who developed very slow, so her egg color may be different. My rhodebar lays very dark eggs, while she's supposed to lay light brown eggs. The Rhodefelder lays largest, dark brown eggs every day. But Dennis doesn't have rhodebar or Rhodefelder anymore.
I'm sad that you had to give up your pets like that. I wish I could do something. You certainly win the prize for giving my chicks the best life after they left here. If you ever get to a place where you can have chickens again, I will do whatever I can to get some replacements to you.

I have 2 little Rhodefelders left. They hatched last week, and your descriptions make me inclined to keep them and see what they are like when they grow up.

Thanks so much. You have the absolutely best chickens, who are healthy, happy, beautiful, easygoing, and great layers. Hubby and I already have an agreement that we will only get chicks from you, or Jess whose chickens are mostly from you, if we can restart our fĺock. Here central NY is a very rural area, and many my colleagues here having chickens, so we shouldn't have any problem. Unless the stupid company management decides to move our department again next year.

Sorry I am in negative mood. I need to stop waning. I am sure everybody heard enough. Good news is there is a large NY state fair here just several minutes away from me, so I may have a chance to have a look this week. If I can go, I'll take some pictures to share.

Thanks for the recommendation!
If you get enough space, maybe you can join Jess and I in hatching and selling chicks to others in your area. I find it very rewarding to help people get off on the right foot with chicks that are special. 2016 has been very good and the chick sales helped keep the dairy farm going for another year. We (my sister, brother-in-law, and I) are trying to figure out what next year might be like. I know I want to hatch and sell a lot of Legbars and Welbars. I also want to get more involved with 4-H and get some of my newly acquired show quality Ameraucanas into the hands of those kids. Ams are perfect for showing and showmanship, since they tend to be calm and have good deportment. Other than those things, i'm going to "wing it" and see what happens. Maybe "brown sexlinks" will be a "thing" in 2017, I might call them "Brownies" in honor of your chick. I have both Wheaten Ameraucanas and California Greys growing out together, so the pairing will be easy to do.

Nice eggs and garden! This last wave... Whew! Some of the thunder shook the house today, but I moved into the center of the house. I wouldn't be surprised if I tree fell! I can't believe I have internet right now.

Good morning everybody!
How do you use the chicken manure? I know you have to age or rest it for most uses. I was using pine shavings in my coop before, but I will have a much bigger coop. In the burbs, I had to bag everything up and put it in the trash. I guess this is where poop boards would be handy for "collecting".
I just use it fresh, as Dhetzel said, don't over do it.

I don't know if this helps, but my Barred Rock often laid a more "torpedo" type egg, more conical. I miss my Hennifer Lopez. I will have to spoil this new group and handle them a lot so hopefully I will get some sweet ones again. :)

Thanks! Will do. Once I get some raised beds in, after I clear some area, after I get my coops together, after I get my chicks.... Etc,

Thank you!...I have been watching the 'cells' move across our areas..boy, some very nasty stuff. Just be careful please.
Why is it whenever it is pouring the hardest, that is when the dogs have to go out????
he.gif
...oh..yeah..okay..let me just take a THIRD shower!
rant.gif

I just can't 'let them out' on their own either...they are 5 * poms, too many predators around here..heck, even the cats would be an issue for them
roll.png
. They are always on a leash or ties.

I went out during the bad part because I wanted to be sure everyone was okay, and had gone to bed. As I stood under a metal chicken wire roof, holding a metal flashlight, watching the lightening... LOL
