I am new!

Welcome to the fun!

Welcome from Kennett Square PA!

Thank you! I am from Indiana County and I have had birds for three years. Different kinds of games are my favorite, but I have had a little bit of everything, including guineas, geese, turkeys, and ducks..All are pets because I am an ovo-vegetarian.

Ovo-vegetarian, does that mean the only animal products you eat are eggs? If so, better make sure you're getting a B12 shot. I had a deficiency that took a while to detect, and I eat meat! :)

My one EE has gone broody. I make her get out of her nest box of choice in the morning when I let them out and then make her get out several more times throughout the day. We collect eggs often and she is often sitting in empty box. She has made the others mad by taking over their favorite box...there are six boxes but heaven forbid they use a different box!!

I feel bad for her because when I do make her get out of the coop all the other chickens chase her. ALL of them. She is the very bottom of the flock. Idk what else to do to break her from being broody and to make the others be nice

@dheltzel or anybody else who fancies themselves to be smart enough to answer the question.

When breeding birds towards the breed SOP which of these faults would be the easiest to breed out and correct?

Poor Body type
Comb and wattles that are to big for SOP
Poor feathering
Combs and wattles are generally the easiest and color/feathering is the hardest, unless of course you breed white birds, but for a show those seem the hardest to get perfectly clean.

Look up 'how to break a broody'.... numerous methods, generally the quickest and surest is an elevated wire bottom cage for 3 or 4 days. Better to be 'mean' to her for a few days and get her over it than causing extended upsets to her and the others.

X2

I've also found that slipping an ice pack under her while she's on the nest can work. You have to switch it out a few times though if she's stubborn enough and it warms up lol

She is the same one that was missing and has a bum leg. Took her out of the box and just have her in the tub now. Hard to tell but I do think she is getting better. We had her out for some fresh air.
