I watched a duck come out of underneath the front porch.![]()
That is the funny thing. She lays hers in the coop most days. I am wondering if the other eggs are there? I could go check with Duckling sleeping. Or, I could realize I don't want to lay on moist ground.
@Auroradream26 . Mira looks great! It's amazing how they can come back from such a serious injury. The ducks look so cute too. Definitely need to gro into those feet. Are your turkeys that friendly because you hand raised them? Mine are curious and will sometimes follow me, but they won't let me touch them. I've only had them a month though.
My turkey Wheezy is still wheezing. The first night I gave her .5 ml. of the duramyacin. The second night I upped it to 1 ml. Last night it was too late, and tonight I gave her 1 ml. again, but not all of it got in her mouth.. I will give her one more dose tomorrow, and hopefully she will get better. I will be keeping an eye on her this weekend. I wish I could weigh her, but I don't think there's any way she would hold still. Maybe she will just come through it on her own.

I hope she recovers for you.
I'm almost positive the boys are so sweet because I hatched them and raised them. Pretty sure they imprinted on me. The only ones I have trouble with are the ones that I didn't hatch out. One is aggressive and the other is skittish lol
My turkeys were all very skittish, but I didn't hatch them, just got them as day olds or older.
We just processed our last two turkey hens tonight... I suggested we just skin them and part out the breasts and grind the dark meat. It was definitely faster than trying to find a pot big enough to scald them in and plucking by hand. Hubs encountered a weird, smelly... thing... by the shoulder of the one hen though. He immediately freaked out and insisted the whole bird was garbage. I insisted that he finish skinning it and see what the meat and the organs look like before we decide to waste all that meat. He obliged and the meat looked fine and the liver was beautiful so we parted that one out too. Any idea what it could have been? My first thought was an injury that got infected (based on the smell), but hubs said it was like a 'growth'. I didn't look close enough or touch it other than to see that it was kind of yellow and round. She used her wings just fine and would fly up to roost at night. My neighbor suggested it could be a cyst, but would that smell?
Other than the weird, smelly thing, I am glad we finally got the turkeys processed. After our tom died and none of the eggs we had collected turned out to be fertile, I was pretty let down with the whole turkey project. Now the pen is clear so that I can fix up the roof and bird netting situation and move the pheasant over. *That one male pheasant is still all brown and I'm sure they all have feathered out completely. On to the rabbits, hopefully tomorrow.
