Lucky, how much does she charge? And what do you mean by there rarity which is going away fast? There are more of them now? Or do you mean there is still hardly any of them?

Lots more people have them and will be offering eggs and chicks next spring. I think there is a lot of variation among the various strains and even individual birds in the strain, so the really black ones will continue to bring serious money, while the ones with small defects, like white toenails of pink inside the mouth should be a lot cheaper this year than last.

IDK what the going rates are, I know they have 2 pens, one of lower quality, so those would be cheaper. PM me when you are ready to buy some chicks and I will inquire about the prices.

Do you know of any "local" sources for bantam Wyandottes or modern game bantams? Looking for show/breeder quality...

The "local" and "show quality" can make your search hard. Neither of these are very popular as bantams, bantam rocks are more popular than wyandottes and old english games far more popular than the modern games. I can ask around, but the best way to get good quality show birds is to go to a show and meet the breeders, then buy birds directly from them.

If you are willing to get them shipped and not expect the highest quality, Ideal Hatchery in Cameron, TX has a bunch of colors of both of these breeds.

Lol, I don't have a ton of eggs set, I think maybe 14 still in the bator and the 4 in the hatcher now. I don't expect every one to hatch and I have a large, winter brooder set up to handle them until they can move outside as soon as its warm enough. I'm not sure if it'll ask work out the way I plan lol but I couldn't pass up the Ayam cemani eggs, and I wanted to use my new CCL roo immediately to try to have a few nice boys with crests to use in the spring. Gotta do what you gotta do!


I never thought in a million years that I would having incubators humming while [@=/u/249441/dheltzel]@dheltzel[/@] has his shut down lol. I may need a little more restraint!

We are having an addition added to out house for my Dad and the construction involves the "chick room", so clearing out everything was a requirement. Otherwise, the bantam lavender Ameraucana eggs my pullets laid would have been just too much temptation. I gave them to a friend to "test the fertility" and they have 1 chick out so far.

Getting all of the young birds that are growing out into their winter breeding pens is my priority now.

Unfortunately, they stopped laying a few weeks back. I don't add lighting until December to give them a break and (hopefully) synchronize them to all start about the time I want to start filling incubators. The only breed I still have that is laying are the Jill Rees Legbars, everyone else has quite for molting, etc. If you want to hatch some really nice legbars, let me know.

Thanks @Blarneyeggs , that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. The fence I want to build will be to keep the hens close to the coop/covered run sometimes. And stop them roaming an acre away.

I have a 1/2 acre fenced back yard....all my original girls went AWOL a few times til I got a roo....then everyone stayed put....if the food and water is available they won't roam too much....just to reiterate, a 4' fence will not protect your chooks from any predators...my two cents....

Hi @stake, I didn't know that a rooster has the affect of keeping the hens closer to the coop, that's interesting. With a 1/2 acre yes are your neighbours on the other side of the fence?

The hens are outside all day everyday currently, so wide open to predators during the day and 100% safe in the run and coop at night. The fence would be to restrict their movement over to poop on the neighbour's deck.

anyone in south central Pa have a goose for my gander? He needs a lady. He was raised with a mallard female duck.. i would like to have him a lady before spring so he doesnt think hes a big duck and try to get frisky with his pen friend

I have sold the younger Legbars. The youngest one were hatched in July. I still have 2 of the blue egg sexlinks hatched on 8/12, but no Legbars that age.

Yes, neighbors on three sides and the Roo's won't let the girls wander....they will take them to the food/water.....and protect them......if you can do it a roo is a good thing....
