Ana has a baby! When I tucked her in, I blocked the nest box to make sure nobody fell out overnight and that she didn't leave in the morning. I noticed the baby by feeling for eggs under her and I found an empty shell. The baby is a little black cutie. It doesn't look pure though. I'll have to watch as it grows to see who daddy was :)

Going through chick withdrawal, our hens are slacking, it has been 6 weeks since a hatch and still 15+ days to go for Lacey. Guess we're just spoiled.

I'll do my best to get some tomorrow :) That's really weird for you not to have chicks around lol

Congratulations! Spring is coming! At least at BYC. I am looking for more babies soon.

Busy weekend here, took advantage of the warm weather to put up a pole tent/storage garage we got to allow us to work on the boat this winter. Next year it will be moved to another location for firewood, tractor and smaller boat storage.
Expensive at outset but over 12-15 years it makes for cheap storage.

And to keep with the chickeny theme....the birds loved the weather, roamed the yard and spent time sunning them and dust bathing. I dumped some wood and coal ashes in a favored sunny spot and it was a big hit with the flock.

Here's the 4 the kids and us hatched this weekend. They're all fluffed up now and looking nice for a photo each.

4 went into lock down and 4 hatched on time! Getting better at this. The one with the red/brown face is the funniest one to watch.

This week's hatch was 30 chicks, from 37 eggs that made it to lockdown.
I can't seem to find my camera at the moment . . .

That's the red/brown faced one. That was the first one out and is the most lively.

It was the same with the last hatch we did. First one out seems to be the strongest and most energetic in the first week.
I have noticed (and heard from others) that the early hatchers are a bit stronger than the later ones. My hybrids, like the sexlinks, are usually the first out the gate, and they are always active and hardy.
