Here is a picture of the cute little D’uccle a few day ago. @dheltzel, do you know anyone who may have hatching D’uccle eggs? Color is not important.

@AnneInTheBurbs I'm so sorry about your girls. Sounds like a hawk or a falcon. I have 2 that watch the youngsters every year.

Does anybody know of any reputable Light Brahma breeders?

@AnneInTheBurbs I'm so sorry for your loss. So heartbreaking :(

@Pachickens144 I just hatched about 9 light brahmas from a decent breeder so I may have some next spring. I don't know what she charges for eggs or chicks (I traded hen saddles for mine) but she is NPIP. Her name is Betsy Allen Barrix on Facebook.

@Auroradream26 will you have any of your sexlink olive eggers hatching eggs after next week? or the blu egg laying ones?

All my birds are running together now so i have left available are turkey poults. Next spring I should have F2 sex linked Olive eggers but that will be the only sex links I should have.

Adorable! Hard to believe only 2 with how big she was! Congrats on the new additions.
Yesterday I came home to find my two poor little D’ Uccles dead. This one below (caution: graphic) was not quite dead, but clearly suffering, so I put her out of her misery. I may have been able to save her if I had been home and able to treat her.

I think it was a hawk, but what do you guys suspect?

1. All of the other chickens were fine.
2. The other little D’uccle has what I think was a broken neck, but it could have been internal injuries.
I found it in the coop, but looks like it may have struggled a little before it died, it had poop on its rear.
3. The bodies were left, so I would think one of the Roos interrupted the predator.
4. These were the smallest, aside from the turkey poults.

I'm so sorry Anne... how horrible for you to find them like that :hugs

A bird is certainly possible, but raccoons and other furry predators have been known to reach through fences and grab unsuspecting birds near the fence. Sometimes pulling their heads off when trying to pull them through the fence but scalping is also possible if they didn't get a firm hold on them. :hmm

Thanks guys for the kind words.

I don’t think it was a raccoon, because it happened during the day, and my girls are still free ranging.

I’m very excited though. A friend is taking down his neighbors fence, which is still in good condition. He is giving me all the old fencing so I can use it in my Chicken area.
