Hello everyone! Out of 8 hens only one is laying. I guess this would be a good time to worm them?
What does everyone use? I have never done this before......

From what I've read, most people prefer to worm with wazine first, then 10 days later with safeguard. I've never done it though I probably should at some point

I think the other 4 are females.

What I would do is wait and see if having 2 males is too stressful on them and then make the decision.

Is it necessary to worm regularly even if you don't see any sign of worms or sick chickens?

Everyone is going to have a different opinion on this. Some people say to do it every six months, some say yearly, and others say only if necessary. I personally tend to lean towards only when necessary but then again, you usually won't really see signs of a problem until it's a big problem.

My feeling is that I haven't ever wormed them and they do live most of the time outside....if I don't do it while they aren't laying much, I probably never will. No visible worms in their poo (or free organic fertilizer as I refer to it to my husband).
Do you buy the wormer online or TSC? I assume the eggs are no longer organic for the life of the chicken after worming?

I believe that tractor supply carries both wormers. The safeguard is technically for goats but it can be used safely on chickens. As far as organic, I really have no idea. I'm guessing that for at least 2 weeks post worming they wouldn't be considered organic but that it would be totally out of their system so not sure how that would work.

I have used Wazine before.
When I first got my birds, clear out their systems, and during quarantine when adding new birds..they were not laying eggs at that time though, they were young.
Have only had to used Wazine when I noticed parasites in the adult girls once.
Then made sure to wait at leas 2 weeks before egg consumption.
Yes, it is very hard to nixs eggs, but I have enough issues to add more just over a few eggs.
I use squash/pumpkin seeds to handle worming twice a year , Spring & Fall, sometimes more if I have access to them.(pumpkin seeds)
Don't know if it really does much but they also have access to hot pepper flakes & seeds, multiple herbs (dried & fresh), marigold, sunflower, nasturtium & other seeds.
All home grown as "clean" as possible.
Just trying to do the best for me & mine as we see it fit...that's all.
Everyone has their own way & own reasons.
It's all good Peeps:highfive:..keep on keepin' on!:woot
