Well, we're relocating to a bigger coop and yard away from the dog kennel, maybe over there the feed won't sour so quick. Here's hoping (and praying)!

Mine are used to it and have eaten it that way since they were babies. It only takes newbies a few minutes to learn that it's yummy once they see everyone else devouring it. I use a 5 gallon bucket and before bed, i put equal amounts of feed and water in to the bucket and stir (usually no more that halfway-3/4 full or it might overflow). Then in the morning, I just scoop it out in to bowls for them. Since I ferment it, I leave an inch or two in the bottom of the bucket for the next day to continue the ferment.
I really want to ferment feed but worry about it getting moldy. I used to just put water on their food and they usually love it, but then it went bad and they wouldn't touch the stuff. On dumping it out the next day, I found maggots in it!
So my chicken with fly-strike seems better. I don't see any maggots anymore. The wound is smaller every day and I'm still spraying it with vetericyn spray to promote fast healing. However I have noticed she is not eating much. I worry she may be sad being all alone in the cage in my laundry room. I'm thinking maybe I can put her cage in the coop so she can be with everyone else but not get picked at? What do you guys think?

Alternative is to bring her in a friend for the day, just switch out friends each day, or use a puppy play pen fence in the yard with an old sheet clothes pinned over it to allow her some grass time each day, with or without other flock members.
