Ok everyone I have a question... well actually my 7 year old does and since I am new to raising chickens I can't answer it. He would like to know when the chicks will start sounding like...well...chickens. lol He actually looked at me and said when will they start clucking and stuff. Thanks in advance and sorry for sounding like a goofball.
My son (same age) just asked the same thing. Glad I'm not the only one who couldn't answer.

Nothing goofball about it...
Your chicks will continue the high pitched cheeping for probably 3 or 4 weeks, after that their vocalizations start to get louder but still don't get the variety of an adult bird. You will start noticing a greater range of sounds and tones around 8 or 9 weeks and even roos starting to try to crow. They develop the more defined 'cluck' and a much more definitive and manly sounding crow after about 16 wks or so.
Just understand, this is how my last 3 groups or so of youngsters did, but they were EEs, Barred Rocks, Australorps and some other mutt, large fowl breeds. That maturation time may vary with other breeds. I know many of the Silkies don't start crowing till much later.
May be able to give you a more accurate timeframe if you are dealing with a particular breed and someone else here is familiar with them.

Thank you for the info. I was going to ask as well, until I saw Eric's post.
