Good night All!
need to put this on hubby's truck
Wing's brabanter chicks. 4 of 6 shipped eggs hatched. She has generously asked if I wanted them and since I have no more room they will be going to a girl at work.

2 good hatches on shipped eggs so far.... guess the key to getting shipped eggs to hatch is be drunk when ordering

Well:

Had the first critter try to get to the chicks...tried to dig under the bottom and pulled the handle off the slide out tray....most likely a fox or racoon...I'll be adding some 6x6s to discourage the pest...

I would also padlock the slide out tray if possible. Raccoons can pull those suckers right out.

ohh no...see , this is the one thing I am worried about. Lots of critters where we are at...and sometimes big-ones too!! Will have to inspect the heck-out of our set-up...constantly looking for better ideas.

So has any ever had 2 hens coparent a chick? I have 2 sister hens who are caring for one chick! It is quite funny because the chick doesn't quite know who to follow! But so far it is doing well and those 2 hens are pretty attached to one another! Jw if anyone else have ever seen this in their broody hens! This one poor hen has been thru a lot so many of my hens have been trying to take this egg and also the chick once it first happened! Like blarney said Chick napper!

2 Mommas & twice the protection. As long as the hens stick fairly close together the chick will be fine.
