Ginger is the BL & Babs Is the Partridge. Ginger is steadily laying, but she gets so crazy befor she does, it gets Babs all excited too. when she finally lays, all is quite again...I don't know what her deal is

...any body maybe have a clue?

We moved the "quick setup" -Play pen" to the front of the coop area form the garden(finally got that in) for more yard time. They are lovin' it & so am I, less mess in the coop! The little "shed" to the left is the "chicken shed", I get to put all my stuff in there., even my chicken boots! keeps everything organised & secure. Sorry for taking up so much room guys

Well, I just had my khakis attacked by a Great Horned Owl. Not quite sure what to do at the moment. No casualties, left a big dent in the bird wire though. Scared the living h*** out of me when I heard Dolly screaming at the top of her lungs! I can't be blasting away at the dang bird in the middle of the night, and I'm sure they're protected anyways :( just another thing I have to worry about now I guess. I threw a big tractor/car cover over the duck run (they're in a tractor) so hopefully when he figures out he can't get in, he'll leave them alone...makes me mad that I can't fight back when he's after my babies!!!

Great Horned owls are huge, so glad to hear no one was injured! I do believe they are protected though.

I don't know what the regs are near you (or how close/picky your neighbors are) as far the gun being fired, but you could see about the non-lethal rounds. They sell them for home defense, but I use them on animals I don't want to kill like the owls when we had rabbits, or animals that are out of season (groundhogs, coyotes, coons and possoms aren't as lucky). If it's to defend your flock I think you'll be ok, but check to be sure.
Glad the wire held it back, and no one was hurt.
ETA: they are protected by fed and state laws, so check with the Game Commission about non lethal rounds or if this continues if they relocate problem birds. Although I don't know how much good relocation would be for a bird...

Bobbie, I just sold a nice MF Cochin boy...I was even going to ask you before I sold him, but didn't want to seem pushy. I got my first birds from Gaetano Farms in Connecticut. This New Years hatch I hatched out some eggs from Nancy (Fancy Feathers?) here on BYC, I'm really liking her line, not bad coloring and some type too!
It wouldn't have been pushy to inquire! ;)
I am being picky about the boys I get now. I have to be now that Byron is leaving in a month. He's my best typed boy and I haven't bred a son to replace him yet. Junior is nice, but not nearly as nice as his dad.

Dewey and I cleaned coops and rearranged again today. So, picture time! These are most of my birds - just missing the LF Orp pen, Cee and his 2 girls (MFCs) and the waterfowl.

Black pen, including the pair from Jamie Matts (who are both still sick!)

Other black/blue pen, mixture of lines. The rooster was being a dumbarse and was in my arms as I took pics. The one girl is kind of missing most of her back feathers. I think the other black is a dominant female and may have been trying to be a rooster with her. There hasn't been a roo in with them in months.

Chocolates got a whole 6x8 shed all to themselves now. Well, the MFCs are only temporarily housed in there until tomorrow.

^ MFCs - Millie on left, Mildred on right ^

Junior and his girls. I only added Bridgette to the mix, otherwise, same girls.

^ Bridgette, 2nd floor, was Byron's favorite. Can you tell? ^

^ Poor Parti girl has no cushion left from breeding ^

Byron and his daughters (mostly Bridgette's daughter's, too - the calico is Millies)! And Chippy (OEGB). And Hot Pants (culled) and Smutty Buff's daughter, Mocha. I think I have a slight... major infatuation with Byron. He's such a mean, nasty, foot attacking SOB, but my gosh he's gorgeous!

^ Mocha ^

^ Mocha ^

^ My fave Byron x Bridgette daughter ^

^ Chippy ^

... Hehehe. They don't know I got this one. Devon, Makenzie and Mocha.
