There are times having a big mouth comes in real handy. (I know, I have 1.)

Hi, new to backyard chickens.

I've had some layers for a few years and decided to branch out and put the farm to use.

I am now enjoying being overrun with chickens. I have:

12 layers about 2 months from laying
8 cornish X (temporary)
2 ducklings that think I'm mom
4 Dorkings two hens and two roo's

and 29 assorted chicks of cochin, brahma, dominique, barred rock, and silver laced wyandottes. and one silver laced polish hen.

Going for dual purpose free range/organic and something friendly for my almost 3 year old nephew to be involved with since he loves going down and helping me water, feed, and pitchfork hay.

Howdy from Chester Co....how do you like your dorks? my pair are really friendly and really low key compaired to the rest

Oh, this just bites.
I moved all the Ameraucana pullets to the big coop with all the other mostly feathered chicks and so far it's just normal pecking order squabbles. All the Ameraucana and OE cockerels are being culled tomorrow. No point in saving birds I know won't sell... I have to beg people to take them for free. They are taking up valuable room and eating my feed. So far, no more vent pecking. I did lose one yesterday due to vent picking, but it was one in the infirmary and wasn't looking all that great a couple days ago.

I moved the 2wk old chicks that were crammed in the tote brooder to the 2x6 foot brooder all the sick chicks were in. I bleach the crap out of that brooder... 5hrs after the chicks were in there I had my first sneeze. So, on with round freakin 2. It has to be that cocci that gets in the respiratory system! I bought the organic, unfiltered ACV and made my own kind of VetRX with rosemary oil, eucalyptus oil and oregano oil. It's making my hands super soft, too... Smells yummy...

Anyways... Sick of the illnesses. I just had an exciting 2 hatches. The round in the sick brooder had 2 100% black English Orps and 2 Jubilee split black bantam Orps. This round (in the blue tote brooder and not sick) has my first 2 large fowl chocolates! WHOOT! I hope the Orps in the sick group say healthy!

Who else is at Green Dragon besides Ray and I??? Holding down my seat behind the auctioneer.
please tell me I did not miss much,,,I really wanted to pick up some pheasants and a couple of rabbits,,,,I got up early to finish all chores early so I could go,,,,then just as i swas getting ready to leave i got a phone call,,,FIL took a nasty fall and needed to go for x-rays,,,,guess you all know where my day was spent..

Thus far, I like them. The two hens are a year old I got from a woman who had lost her roo and wasn't going to replace him. She hadn't handled them too much I think, but they are improving and docile.

The roosters are juveniles from a local who ordered an assortment from Meyers and got them thrown in. They were in with other breeds that were more aggressive so they're a bit skittish and ragged.

They were from a January hatch, but are nowhere near ready to talk to my ladies. They did just decide in the last week they no longer liked each other's company. So I have them separated.

I know they're a slow to mature breed, so I'll just have to be patient until they fill out into their handsome selves.

oh boy! Hope FIL is ok. I couldn't make the dragon either. It WAS my top priority for today, but ended up getting bumped.

We DID get our 4H pigs today! Had (ahem) issues? with the truck, were running out of time and so picked the piggies up in a mini van. Of COURSE one escaped the back on our ride home and road in the second row with DD#3, DH was not pleased.
