Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Maybe, but I don't think I can do it. I don't understand vets-- they can't ask their patients about their symptoms, it must be so hard!

Maybe so... but animals don't lie about what is wrong with them!!!! Trust me, after dealing with medical situations for over 25yrs I find animals are much more honest!!!

There are pros and cons to EVERY profession. I have the brains for med school and I love science, but I sit here ripping my hair out because I do not know if it is right for the life I want (aka no time for future kids/ animals).

You need to be able to make it work the whole way around... there will be give and takes, but you have to very honestly evaluate what you want to accomplish, how and where you would be happy living, and what type of family time/life you can have... then you will know what type of job you can dedicate your studies toward. You can be in medicine and still have a life, but it may be in research or a background type medicine, rather than being in the front line of patient care.

My field smells like Schmidt! Neighbor is cleaning out his barn and guess where some of it goes? I should have very healthy weeds. (yes, he has my permission, kind of how we get along out here)
Gotta love that pure country air!!

Springers are such great dogs!

I was paying this guy in Bethel $1.50 per chicken. I would drop them off the night before, and he would tell me a time to pick up, and I would go get them in a cooler, and bring them home and wrap them myself.  And I know what you mean.  The only ones I can remotely stand to do are ones that bite me. LOL!!!
That isn't bad at all!!

Lisa, I got hatching eggs from Blarney and they are just the most awesome chicks ever!!!  Go see her!!!

Awwww! Thanks for the vote of confidence! I'm so glad you're enjoying them!

the man works, doesn't get home til around 4, problem with that is, they're four hours away, almost to the ny line, and i hate bill driving pulling a stock trailer at night. so anyway, we have to go pick him up sunday. this is a pic of him, cute isn't he?
Yes. Very cute. and already leash trained!

Well, to continue the baby theme of the night....

Gracie and Pidgy each hatched out a brood of chicks almost 5 wks ago, and last weekend we got another broody hatch from our hen Janeway, and actually, her chicks are all from our own flock of mixed breeds, so pretty cool to watch them.

first trip out and about in the 'play pen'

Peek-a-boo!

Well, a few days ago Gracie decided she was done being broody with her crew and she went back to her roost, they are nearly 5 wks old and were doing fine, but obviously missed their mama hen.... We decided to put Janeway and her bunch into the big broody area with Pidgy and her crew and the crew of 'orphans' as Radioman calls them. Lo and behold the first night after she was in with them we go to lock them up for the night and find that Janeway has adopted the orphans! So she now has 6 of her own (1 wk olds) and 4 of Gracie's (5wks old) and they seem to be all quite happy with the set up! Got this pic of them tonight before we locked up. If you look closely to the lower left of Janeway's chest you will see a little puffy white head peeking out... that happens to be one of Gracies chicks, and in fact is a mini Gracie, (white Silkie mix from one of Gracie's eggs)

and the second shock of the night was that I didn't find Gracie up on the roost with the other birds like she has been the past 3 nights...
I FOUND HER BACK IN HER BROODY BOX!!! I snapped a pic, just to show Radioman... we are hoping she's just back in her broody spot because she likes the basket or something, because I never would have thought she'd get back to being broody within a week of seperating from her last batch of chicks! Geesh, she's only laid 3 eggs so far! Hoping she is back out and about with the flock tomorrow and this is just a phase!

congrats....I have a Dunhill for ya....

a whaa? Dunhill?

I am so tired, but like to catch up. Lily had her kids today too, she was NOT going to be outdone by 'Houdini'. Lily gave us a girl and boy, so glad I got at least one girl. I am emotionally and physically exhausted. But can't seem to stop checking on things out there. MsLadyHawke came by to help me out, Thank You!

awwww!!!  I had a house full of kids today too! I was a fit! OMGAWD and then she retained 2 placenta,  then took an hour between each and finally got one placenta to expel and the other finally did almost an hour ago! I cried screamed and hit every emotion I could today!

I feel for you! How funny the same day for us! or them! lol
CONGRATS!

Wow Such beautiful puppies! Sounds like we had a similar day.
