Those humidities sound high to me. I only go up around 60 at lockdown. I run maybe 35 the rest of the way, but I don't really know what I'm doing.
Air conditioning dries the air. I like basements because they tend to be stable and damp. Of course in my old house, thats just about the only stable temperature.
I found three more gauges, three more confused I become. I have a couple I use and just get to know what readings work on those gauges, not sure my readings are accurate just close.
There is a science to it, but by the same token, chickens do it themselves, so there is a little leeway. I've been shocked by conditions and screwUPS that haven't caused failure.
If you are using shipped eggs, don't fret poor hatches. You have no idea what they went through coming to you. My shipped rate is beyond horrible, my personal rate is around 90%, set at the same time, same conditions. Iv think sometimes we humans try to make things harder than they are.
 
So does anyone know who was slaughtering chickens in Pittsburgh Illegally? Animal friends tookin 62 birds... Just saw it on the news

that was what i thought as well, that they were too high, but i talked to a neighbor and thye siad that sounded about right. I would have had a 7 out of 8 hatch on shipped eggs. But 2 of the shrink wrapped ones i tried to help out didn't make it. My fault. the other 2 i helped out did. My impatience, my fault. I know what not to do next time, but i would like to avoid the shrink wrapping all together. I am thinking maybe my hydrometer is off. Will see what the new one says. Should be in today. Maybe i should try to weigh the eggs instead of going by air cell shape and size. I also have a turner this time so i won't have to open the bator to turn, so i hope that helps as well. when you add damp paper towels. hwere do you put them? Under the eggs, under the wire, on top of the eggs?

Not quick enough, she called me as soon as I started to get comfortable to tell me the results.. So I had to drive back out to Quakertown at 7 last night.. needless to say i am really tired of driving! lol I will find a way to keep this Rooster also! Antibiotics, and the Dr Visit, costs to run the tests! UGH!! lol But he will be good as new in no time! Fingers Crossed that is all it is, as that is treatable, I Will also be having Chad Come out to Vac-innate all my girls & Send out blood tests :) And this weekend the coop will be getting a good scrub down, and new feeders, and a makeover using sand in on the floor, some poop catcher thingyies.. Going to be busy busy busy!!!

And so I am medicating my girls and they seem to be getting better. But lets say they heal but become carriers for life of whatever this is. After the withdrawl period from the meds, would it be ok to eat the eggs? Or would I risk catching whatever it is they had?

When I add paper towels, I put them in a glass with water and check that they stay damp. If my humidity is way lower than I want it. I fill a sanitary napkin with water and chuck that in directly below the vent hole for easy addition of water. It ain't pretty, but it works.

This is just awesome! So exciting that they even hatched! I love killdeer. They are funny sometimes in their antics.
