Ugh I hope not, it is like walking out of the house into an oven at the moment. I swear I can't get my above ground pool soon enough - stupid walmart and shipping that takes entirely too long! It looks like one hell of a storm on the radar but no warnings/watches have been issued yet - guess i'll wait for the lil guy to drop off to sleep and go tidy the yard of lawn chairs etc - not taking any chances after the wind that came through with the last 2 storms, felt like a freaking hurricane!! Then i'll go get the girls in early for bed tonight, don't feel like running around later in the rain getting them into the coop lol

When they are young like this, get a can, and put some scratch in it or treats or whatever as long as it makes noise when you shake it. They will get use to it and follow you to the ends of the earth for whatever is in that can.... No more running..

Yeah they are good like that now lol guess I got lucky - they also just stand there and let me pick them up. They are pretty friendly

Totally unrelated to chickens but has anyone been to Disney in florida?? We are looking at going next year if a friend makes it over from australia and I was wondering if anyone has been and what they thought of it.

So now I am considering chicks vs pullets...................

I would love the adorable chicks BUT
how much attention do they need to be safe if I am away at work etc
what about the fact that I cannot have a rooster?

one place lets you return roosters...........

will chicks be big and warm enough for the fall?

this is my first go at this chicken thing..............maybe its easier with a juvenile chicken?

any advice from this nice group of veterans? !

Lisa, as long as you are using a chick waterer, and the brooder is protected from other pets, chicks will be fine. Get sex linked chicks to ensure pullets. And, yes. They will be fine outside well before winter.

WOW it got dark here, normally it is still kinda light till about 9.10 but it is pitch black outside. The wind has started, here comes the storm!!

so here is another question......................how does one cut pvc pipe? Is there a special tool or.............can ordinary tools do the job..........

so much to learn and its not always directly about the chickens!

Lisa:

Get the birds you want....I originally wanted four...a friend said...one will die and one will be a roo....well I got six and they are all keepers....If you get an errant roo, I can help you out with that...from my limited understanding, Opringtons and Cochins are nice by nature....my BOs are friendly , I have been told, silkies are the sweetest lap pets you could want...I got day olds...and I kept them in a laundry basket for the first week then in a dog crate to 8weeks....then outside....hope this helps.....
