I have a definite drop in egg production. I have an egg eater, also there was a steep decline about a week after our predators loss. I'm blaming that on stress, and then, there's the heat. : ( We do have FIVE less raccoons on our property these days. DH shot one Tuesday mid morning. Appeared to be rabid. Wandered off into the bramble and brush and I have NOT been able to find it. There is just nothing like ending your day with a sweaty prickly search through the thorns. I believe we are going to have to remove the brush to find this coon.Yes to both!!! I am up to19 broodies! and it seems like the rest are molting! So not to many eggs around here!
Soooo Sweet! Nothing like a broody with her babies. and of course you deserve some credit ~ You kept em safe, watered, fed ect…. so Kudos!
After I dropped our son to preschool I dropped in to the supermarket to do a basic restock (& hover in the strong AC lol) and I got the girls a couple of bags of frozen fruit as it was on sale, so they are out there now pecking away at that! Yeah I made it up before my son this morning lol was a nice change having the house all quiet for an hour and a half hahahaGood morning Tweetr! It really is a beautiful morning. I took an out of date can of peaches up to the coops this morning and let play a little chicken take away. I love that game. Cracks me up every time. It was a nice peaceful morning...before the kids get up and the day begins.
Awwwww cute!!

STAKE… anal? me? well, I'm usually thought of as disorganized and unfocused so I will take that as a compliment! BTW, feel free to stop by here and take as much squash, zucchini, jalapeños and cucumbers as you can carry.

Not you....whoever decided the feathered middle toe is a fault for marans.....I have just got my first three cucs....and my first cherry tom(1)....I have thee Zucs that are huge and have not produced a single veg....Cherries=0, two pear trees=one walnut sized pear....had a case of rust...peaches two trees=0 had a case of red leaf curl....Japanese beetles are putting a hurt on my grapes...and the chicks have nailed the blackberries below 2ft(thats ok though)...I could go on and on......I think there's a shortage of bees in my neck of the woods...next years project maybe a hive.
Picked up some pools for the birds. As I'm leaving the store some lady in the lot asked "oh are those for you or a kiddos party?" Look on her face was priceless when I said, "actually they're for my chickens and ducks." I had a good giggle most of the way home.
I doubt it. They have laid blue in the past.Quote:My egg numbers have been down for several weeks. Last night I did realize that they aren't too bad on a weekly basis, so I was feeling much better.
As for broodies, I signed in to say that one week shy of taking the 2 moms (and an Ameraucan who's broken leg is as healed as it is going to get) and putting them back in the layer pen, my other JG went broody. I thought I wanted my hens to go broody. Then I went 16 chickens over my goal number (and 6 over capacity).I need more coops!
I hate to say it, BUT.........WE TOLD YOU SO.....now next time build twice as big as your plans.![]()
Good grief. Who needs 60 chickens?!?!
that's a long time for 2 birds to stop laying,,,are you sure they are not laying a tan or brown egg???I do want an opinion. I am pretty sure I have mentioned this before, but I have 2 EE that began laying back in February (or January) and stopped at the end of April. Not a single egg since. They are happy and look healthy. No mites or anything. The other 2 girls in the pen are laying fine. If I had an egg eater, I think I would have seen at lest one blue egg in all this time. Any thoughts as to why this is happening?

You made me think about smoothies... I think I would have made the chickens some smoothies to go with the fruit. They would love the yogurt in them.Quote:
Lol I got that this morning with the frozen fruit - the cashier goes "oh they will be great for smoothies" ... Me "nope they are for the chickens" hahaha
