Okay, coop construction: got the back wall up (which is also able to swing open as the cleaning door) and got the linoleum sheeting on the floor today.




Dies anyone have any good ideas of where to get cheap linoleum sheeting? I don't have as much as I thought, and I'd like to use it on the interior walls to cover the insulation and make for easy clean up. I was thinking of going to the local flooring place and ask I could buy some remnants, since I'm not picky about color. Already checked Craigslist today too, nothing there. I'm always open to suggestions!

You can get 12"x12" peel and stick tiles at HD for under a $1 a tile/per .my two cents...

Hi and welcome. You shouldn't have a problem finding chickens from members here. Many people hatching many different breeds. What breeds where you looking to get?

A bit more than a month back I was trying to pair some lonely outdated but perfectly serviceable microscopes with some new homes here. It's finally happening, and some are now boxed up and ready to ship. I tried to PM all the PM's I received, but some people who were interested didn't provide addresses yet. (I think I may have some written down somewhere, but I always figured I could go back through the thread...but when I searched on here for "microscopes" there were 53 pages !!! )

...Great people here to help you with just about anything you can think of!! Alot of supplies and such for free/reduced cost on hometown web sites and on craigs list, just have to keep an eye out! ... Going to check-out your barn now....

Home depot/ Lowes have a "scrap area" ...misc. pieces of wood/ tiles/linoleum..all for very reduced prices!...but if you can find something for FREE on the website that Lisa mentioned, well then go for it!!

Howdy From Chester Co....for my two cents....get your chooks from the folks on here ...for supplies and feed...I can point you in the right direction when the time comes...and if you are willing to read back a bit I posted some local suppliers.

There are a few questions to focus on....How many chooks do you want? Whatever that number is you want a coop and pen twice as big...

What types do you want: Should be cold hardy, and live in runs...and I assume friendly with people....no doubt after you get your first crew established your preferences will change...(why the bigger coop)..

There are many folks smarter than me on the topics....and most will help you as best they can...Lastly, if you want you can visit my 'operation' as a reference,...a couple of folks have and I think it helped them focus on what they wanted to accomplish...good luck...

So do people on this thread sell their chicks to newbies such as myself? :) I'd like to start with Orpingtons, I think, since I want something cold-hardy and docile. I actually work in Malvern so maybe we could arrange for a "tour" sometime? Thanks so much for the reply.

Any chance you come to Malvern Veterinary Hospital? I'm the new small animal vet there...but know nothing about chickens!

If you wandered/crawed up hill from McKenzies pub(through the woods)....you'd wander into my backyard...and yes I wander Rt 30 often and could stop by and meet you...are you next to the classic diner or the new vet place being built on Maddies?

As a reference, you can buy chooks(an aussie slang) from any hatchery...alot of folks on here have breeding programs where if you want a better starting bloodline its available....(I do not breed) but one of my girl is sitting on a handful of mixed egg...due in two weeks...there are many breeds and Orps are great...there are 4-5 folks breeding chocolates and other colors...I have two Buffs that are great...I am in my first year and have learned alot and made the mistakes...it I can walk you around the BS and maybe save you a few bucks in the process...You are welcome to 'tour'...

Welcome welcome-----------------I am in Wayne and have just 4 chickens at this time. I just got started myself this summer and have learned tons on here. Let me tell you............we need a local vet that may have an interest in chickens too! I would love to show you my very small operation and one particular chicken
