Does anyone else get humored by seeing their chickens run? When I walk into the yard they all run at me full speed (probably thinking I got food) and I just love the way they run, fat chickens wobbling back and forth as they go!

Yeppers:

Mine lean forward so far they need to flap their wings to stay stable....sometimes they cluck as they run,,,,always expecting some scratch....

There's some freebie chicks and ducks in the re-homing area most seem to be central PA...(free is always good)

Awesome pics wing!

My turn hehe, our newest fuzzy butt and momma (Peanut). Hatched sometime in the last 24 hours, since it wasn't there yesterday.







15-20 more to go between the 3 broody girls, most if not all are internally pipped!

....that is a big chick!! or you have small hands..

....very cute!!!!

this is how I like to start my day....nice big cup of coffee and a 5 gallon bucket to set my butt on..prefer the spring time view though.

...Are your coops a molded plastic? I see the 'wood-grain', but it looks like a hard molded plastic...or some very awesome paint!

would like to share some pics...







The girls enjoying some pepper & green bean plants(we cleaned out the garden)...they get everything stripped off for me, and I just throw the empty plants in the garden hole.

Chickadee is 13 wks(last saturday)..really filling out nicely and her copper color is coming in on her head/neck


I got a star at the green dragon when we were down in the area. painted it black to pop!

My silkie wasmsitting on 4 silkie eggs and 1 turkey egg. Moved her to her own coop for hatching her eggs in peace. When I moved her, couldn't find 2 silkie eggs. ( I hope I don't have egg suckers in the silkie run) Today found the turkey egg cracked and no poult to be found. The 2 silkie eggs hatched and went to check on them and found the little black one dead under the yellow one's butt. Will the yellow one be ok alone with momma?

I found two dead day olds on the floor of my coop from my first attempt....never figured it out....just had my second hatch...and three of six are doing well...I assumed the babies wander out from under mom and didn't get back, and she wouldn't leave the eggs...also worried that a nasty girl got a hold of them...well, .here's a couple of pics.

Also, I think you need another baby chick for your one(but I'm a newbie)....Pickering Valley feed (Chester Co) had a handful of silkie chicks available...maybe too far of a drive....

Awww stake, your chicks are so cute. I think 2 hours away would be a drive to get chicks. This is my first time hatching silkies, just got my rooster a few momths ago. I wouldn't care what kind of chicks I got if I need nthem for my little silkie. Momma is with her but not sure if she will thrive as an only chick.

I am so glad he is doing well, and even more glad that he has worked out so well for you! He was such a good guy for us and I knew he deserved a flock of his own, it's great that you were able to give him such a great home!

how did your broodies do this year? Any Mr Green Jean babies? Any pics of them, or recent pic of him? Would love to see how he filled out as he matured... We had 2 Greyson boys this year and they both turned out really sweet, one we already sold, the other we still have and it's looking like he's going to be a lot like his daddy.
The shame of it is that we are maxed out on roos so will have to offer him up for sale along with some of our other barnyard mixes, Silver Pencil Rock pullets and a few Black Giant pullets (the Mt Healthy hatcher version of Jersey Giants)

Congratulations on your pregnancy, sorry we don't have space for another rooster.

A broody should be fine with an only chick, it's a bit easier for her, I think. The only downside is when you integrate them with the flock, when the chick is oh, about 6-9 weeks old, Momma may be done mothering and a group does much better at that point than a chick alone. I just had this situation, the chick is fine, but it's a little hard to watch her chirping to her 'Momma' and Momma no longer clucking to her.
