I can't wait till my girls start laying! The one hen that started to lay stopped again, argh. Out of 13 hens/ pullets I'm getting 0 eggs a day. I hope they start laying before I run out of eggs!
 
Well folks had a close call with a red-tail....I was changing the water out when it swooped in,,,,fortunately the warning went out and the girls went running for cover...it got within 8' of them before it broke off...due to me running up the hill, one of my pooches, or the hawk wasn't ready to fly under the bush to get the girls...going to call hawk mt to get some anti-hawk advise...I think if it would've been a falcon it would have gotten one...

Phew! Glad they made it out alive! I was just looking around where my run will be, lots of trees almost overlapping, tall and small. I'm so glad that it will help with the hawk protection. (Although of course not eliminate it!)

I just "lost" my OEGF, the only white/cream egg layer I had. She was not in at the bed time count, :( I am thinking since she was the smallest of my girls she was picked off.. and she would always get out of the run... Thinking it was a hawk of some sort.. I am going to run fishing line across the top of my run, to discourage that hawks.

If you are going to head over to philly, try CHOP. Right next to Penn and amazing hospital. Not sure if they are a teaching hospital, but I would imagine so.

Hope things work out....CHOP is a world class operation and their ER is second to none....many years ago I was a supervisor at a home for children....spent some time there....if your current situation is not working escalation may be an alternative. Just my two cents...
