I am very sorry you lost her. I just found my bantam Cochin. She is my first predator casualty. I don't know what got her. I know it is my fault for not fixing a gap at the bottom of the pop door.
And if anyone is wondering why I just now found her, I don't go into that room until I collect eggs.

That's terrible. So sorry. :( I LOVE banty cochins.

I lost a baby chick on Sat....today I had a hawk in a tree 20yds from the flock with all birds singing...I chased them off but found an isolated chick hiding under a pallet I set up for protection...given time I think the hawk would have flushed the baby and been off...and now that I know this PIA is going to stick around until I drive them off....to further the story, mama #2 jumped my fence to a neighbor's thicket with another chick for safety...when I chased the hawk it flew off 50 yds and set up in a tree...it didn't run til I threw a stone at it .....next time I'll be better prepared....

and while I'm on the soap box...eff the cable companies...pond scum imho....

Ha ha! Stake, I was thinking the same about cable until I went 2 or 3 weeks without cable or internet. The sun goes down too soon to keep busy outside, and reading got a bit old. I tore up a few carpets, rearranged some rooms, and still wished I could sit down to watch a show. I did watch "Two Weeks Notice" about 6 times on DVD.

My Mom makes an awesome chicken stew over rice in the pressure cooker. One of my most terrifying childhood memories is of a piece of carrot getting stuck in the steam vent on top. The weight stopped jiggling and that thing blew right off. Shot the weight right up through the stove hood and through the roof of the trailer we lived in. Sooooo glad looking back now that's all that happened. It could have been a lot worse if the pot itself had blown. It took me a long long long time before I'd use a pressure cooker.
like wing, to this day, scared of the pressure cookers, i know it would be faster, and they make them safer, but big chicken that i am, can still see beans everywhere and think slow but safe

I love cable and internet...the companies are just jerks....if you're looking for free movies....check your public libraries...usually the selection is ok....
