HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!! Are we enjoying the cold weather!!

My eggs, this is about 3 day?
something tells me you have doubled your chicken population since last time we spoke! I am loving those olive eggs too! Most of my hens were on strike since the end of August! Finally added heat and 14 hrs light and in a week I am overflowing with eggs, time to set up the bators I think, I keep procrastinating and my lot of eggs is now huge!

All the snow has collasped part of my turkey run.

I hope we get a break from the snow. It's still snowing here.

Okay..i am done hogging the thread!!...

Now thats stick eye at its best! Karen will you raise the chicks or do you sell them, I am getting eggs in abundance now and have a few wanting serama but I am thinking about setting the CCL and White faced spanish as well but I hate getting stuck with chicks in the winter. And I cant ship until its warm out.

We raise them till we know for sure hen/roo.... we offer them for sale and if they go to a good home that is great, if they don't sell they stay here for eggs and the extra roos go to freezer camp once they get enough size to them. Since all of ours hatch with a broody with just let the broody do the work. Right now Gracie has 3 she hatched out Dec 1st... hoping for at least one or two new broody hens from her hatch.

awe Bobbie I am sure they did get a Angel so sad.

Our Dalmatain is 13 and totally lost it, otherwise he is fine fit and healthy, so odd, he doesnt stop barking or crying and walking into corners and stuff, he bit me several times because I think I scared him and he just didnt know me or what was going on. I dont have the heart to take the old guy, he annoys the heck out of me but I just cant no matter how old and wacked he is. Its so hard to think about. I have to keep him in Lucas's room for our safety and his.
A friend of mine had a 13 yr old St. Bernard named Strawberry who went like that. The way she got around you'd swear she was like three. But her mind started going. One day she went totally off the deep end and started slamming into walls and just racing around the house like a madwoman. Amanda had to take her and have her put down. She was cremated and she's got her ashes in a lovely little box with a family picture of her and her fiance and Strawberry on the front of it in a frame. It's really a sweet memorial. It's so hard to know sometimes when the time has come and you have to make that decision, I know.

You should definitely hatch all the CCL's you can. We all want some of them, it seems like a waste to eat those eggs :)
I live over an hour from you, and don't know how I'd keep them until spring, but there must be a way!

Do your Black Spanish lay as well as leghorns? The reason I'm asking is that I'm interested in improving the laying of some Black Ameracaunas I'm raising. I was thinking of getting a black or blue Mediterranean breed so I can keep the eggs bright blue, but hopefully get more and larger eggs. I have no idea if Spanish would be good for that or if I should be on the lookout for black leghorns or minorcas.

On Easter I'll have EE babies just as a heads up. See what I did there? I'm hatching Easter Eggers ON Easter! Woo!!!! They'll be like 3 dollars. I'll also have adorable little barnyard mixes for $1 or for free if you're from here.

18 weeks till' Easter!

Easter Eggers on Easter...silly rabbit:bun

OMG...you are not going to set eggs in there with all of you??!!:gig ..."no, no-one sleeps here, not for 21 days....i have eggs to hatch"...Silkie...let this site be your egg-baking/hatching fill-in until you have the space....for the sake of your loved one's...we are here to help you:hugs .......take two of these and call me in the morning-:jumpy :jumpy

Indeed.  Y U Tempt me so!  D:  If only I had the money and accommodations right now.  If  you have any babies around early Summerish I just might take some off of your hands.

My guys are all doing great.  Ms Buffington/Ms Butterworth/Dumpy, my fat fluffy Buff Orpington with a million names started to lay last week.  Got my poor daughter in trouble nearly too.  She laid an egg on Monday.  Then didn't lay another one for a couple of days.  On Thursday I had work for the first time in like three weeks so I wasn't home to tuck the birds in.  Called the kids and asked my younger daughter, Jamie to bring in their water, close their coop door, and make sure she checked the nest boxes in case anybody laid late because the egg would be frozen hard and burst till morning if not.
When I opened their coop door in the morning I took a peek in the nest box and there was a lovely dark brown egg frozen solid and split wide open.  I was so mad!  Jamie swore up and down that she did check the nests and there were no eggs the night before.  I yelled at her insisting she must have forgotten to check because none of the hens sleep in the nest boxes and there's no way they would have gotten down off the roosts in the middle of the night to lay an egg.  And she let poor Dumpy's 2nd egg burst and now it was no good.  So there I was being all mad at her over neglecting her duties.  That night I was off and I closed up the coop, checked the nests myself and brought in their waterers.  No eggs anywhere to be found.  Saturday morning, what did I find when I went to leave them out of the coop at around 5:30 in the morning?  A beautiful dark brown egg, cold but not frozen so she must have laid it at least an hour or so before I found it.  Boy did I feel bad!  Went right in, woke Jamie up, gave her a hug and apologized for not believing her about the egg.  Apparently my little Dumpy is a very early morning layer.  And she's laid an egg every day since then as well.  Looks like another girl trying to compete with my White Leghorn for the title of top layer.  As long as they keep making me breakfast and don't get too carried away with the competition they can do whatever they want.  ^_^

I know I am getting to all of these late..sorry..been kinda busy...like everyone else, for sure!!...

KATT-I would have been ranting too util, like you found out..you do have a VERY early riser!!! I am sure you are forgiven..;)

We are storing stuff in the old trailer our camper is leaching electric from. Electric is about all it has. Floors are rotted out of a lot of it, so not safe to live in but my brooder, freezer & spare clothes & blankets are all over there. I plan to do some rearranging in the brooder room to make space for the bator since that's the only room iver there that we are heating. I will have my bator back up as soon as my girls get off strike from the move.

My spanish are amazing layers, The eggs are not as huge as most standards but they sure do lay alot! I have a project bird growing out, she looks full WFS hen but she lays a pretty blue egg. let me get the pic from the diary thread....

copy paste gotta love it! she just started laying along with some other youngins the blue eggs are hers. She is from a WFS roo and a EE hen. She came from a more greener blue egg than this she lays. but over time I notice eggs always get darker in color with age of hen.

I am going to set a ton of eggs this weekend, I can always post on FB groups and CL. I wanted to hatch some mutt eggs from my layer pen as well, I would love to see what my BR hens under the CCL roo would look like LOL. I am chicken wacked! I have about 60 serama eggs stacked up lol. They never stop laying! We will be having some extremely cool deviled eggs Christmas eve! I want to pickle some but still havent dont them! I sell most of my serama eggs as hatching eggs because so many people just want frizzles they love them.

Quote: so even mixes you will raise for food? cool I wish I had more room! My dogs take so much of the yard! My hens are terrible broods, the serama I let sit has been the only good one! and I had to sell her little ones after two weeks because of getting the NPIP testing done and having to clean everything and revamp!

Quote: Sorry, my BYC pages havent been working right for months now, thats why I dont bother anymore! I keep getting errors and then I loose the box up top and cant do anything! frustrating!

I try to quote and it goes empty!

anyway. I wish I had the room to grow them out! It doesnt take me long to get overrun with chicks thats for sure.
