Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

speaking of birds and processing, a perfect example of why husband an wife need to have specific jobs that do not overlap//

remember those chicks I picked up on monday to raise as small game birds....I got 25 chicks and since we both were asking around and selling I now have 35 pre sold....ooopppppsssss
Oops!! Hope you still have a source for chicks!

can you not get your own cpt in ohio Silky?

Even if I got certified for the pt part (which is all we can do in Ohio) we aren't allowed to certify our own birds. I know several people who can test chickens for pt fir me but turkeys have to be a blood draw that goes to the lab & only our npip vet does those that I know if. We inly have 1 npip vet for the entire state. AI has to be done by our npip vet too.

Mine will not go out in the snow either on their own. My DH finally went down into the chicken yard area and snow blowed some trails for them. They will do the trails, I guess because a little grass is sticking thru the snow on the trails. Who knows, silly chickens!!!

Yeah. I'm thinking they just don't like the cold on thier little feet.

As promised here are some family pictures:

Left to right you have: Puffy, Cheeks, Olive and Blondie.

Tiny saw us taking these pictures and decided she wanted to photobomb, so I had a couple (out of focus) with her peering over the shoulders of the easter eggers. Eventually she worked her way into the shot.

Yes, we do our own. We test all for PT-since most shows want it. The manual has the reg as:
NPIP Pullorum Testing Options for Subpart E (as of 2012):

25% test for flocks less than 1,000. If < 30 birds, test all birds.
10% for flocks over 1,000 up to 300 tests
§ 145.14 Testing.
Poultry must be more than 4 months of age when
tested for an official classification: Provided, That
turkey candidates under subpart D of this part may be
tested at more than 12 weeks of age; game bird candidates
under subpart E of this part may be tested
when more than 4 months of age or upon reaching
sexual maturity, whichever comes first; and ostrich,
emu, rhea, and cassowary candidates under subpart F
of this part may be tested when more than 12 months
of age. Samples for official tests shall be collected by
an Authorized Agent, Authorized Testing Agent, or
State Inspector and tested by an authorized laboratory,
except that the stained antigen, rapid whole-blood
test for pullorum-typhoid may be conducted by an
Authorized Testing Agent or State Inspector. For Plan
programs in which a representative sample may be
tested in lieu of an entire flock, except the ostrich,
emu, rhea, and cassowary program in §145.63(a), the
minimum number tested shall be 30 birds per house,
with at least 1 bird taken from each pen and unit in
the house. The ratio of male to female birds in representative
samples of birds from meat-type chicken,
waterfowl, exhibition poultry, and game bird flocks
must be the same as the ratio of male to female birds
in the flock. In houses containing fewer than 30 birds
other than ostriches, emus, rheas, and cassowaries, all
birds in the house must be tested.

Can't wait to do it in Jan-brrrrrrrrr.

be blood tested, the Official State Agency shall evaluate
the results of any blood tests, described in
§145.14(a)(1), that were performed on an unclassified
flock located on the premises during the previous
year; the origins of the unclassified flock; and the
