not wanting to start a big health debate here, just looking for someone who will come do some random testing for a reasonable fee.....looking to test for more than just what is covered in npip....really more of a random thing...

Not AWOL just had a miserable Christmas as usual. Always ok up until other family arrives :( I cant help you out until Chris (local health inspector) decides he has time to come do the field part of our testing. We played phone tag ever since I was at harrisburg and now he doesnt get back to me. I left him a message explaining that is suggestion to wait until Summer wont fly as I need tested in Feb again. Still notta. gonna push in the new year though.

Sucks with Bruce, I am not sure how you are with comin and goings of birds, but I stopped bringing in anything. If I get something they will be tested and I too am watching the bruce posts to learn and keep getting the feedback.

question for the group:

If I have two separate coops and runs but they are next to each other.............will the chickens share diseases?

Do runs have to be farther apart in order to prevent sharing of diseases?

Side by side runs wouldn't effect chickens getting along.......would they? Since they would be going to separate coops and have their own enclosures?

I am of the opinion that side by side may still be too close for airborne types of diseases..........and possible other things too...........but I am just wondering.

I am planning for new chicks in the spring.

I currently have 4 and want to build a new coop for the new chicks but am wondering about where to put it etc

or should I combine them when the little ones get bigger?

I will likely not be able to get more than 4 chicks..........
 
Blarney,,,,,,Love that picture, an the chicks are cute also, you do understand that this is winter time and those chicks will be in the house extra long, right???

Congrats on all the incubators,,,,,you all have more self discipline than I do because I would fill them up just to see what happens.

Sally I have to bring birds in for now, I just have not found a good combination to make my own meat birds quick enough,,,,but Bruce really has me thinking more about this practice,,,I need to o some testing for my own peace of mind, for I really do believe that every flock carries something.(( complete understanding on the holiday part,,,,I drink way to much at this time of year,,,just how I deal with it , I guess ))

Lisa,,, side by side pens will not have any protection from disease, I do find it easy to integrate those birds though..


Bruce is a good guy we all need to lend him a hand if we can,,,,since I have some of the breeds he will need to restock I am willing to test at the appropriate time that he would need
